The Los Angeles Rams’s quarterback situation is shaping up to be one of the most interesting storylines. It’s like Sean McVay’s team has now become the Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory – the place, where most of the soon-to-be free agents quarterbacks would love to go. It might be the end of Matthew Stafford this time in the Rams. As per the reports he might step down from his role. So, who could be the next if not Stafford? How about Aaron Rodgers?
Well, the New York Jets’s QB’s name was recently brought up by NFL analysts Rich Eisen and Albert Breer in Monday’s episode of the podcast – The Rich Eisen Show. Breer highlighted that while the team knows what it has in Matthew Stafford, they also recognize their ability to attract other top quarterbacks. Hence, he named Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins as the suitable QBs for the team. But again, there’s a condition.
The analyst explained why the Rams have the power to attract veteran quarterbacks. In addition, he also revealed why he thinks Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins could join the team – “It’s not just one player that was there, it was the whole team that was there. So that could be an attractive situation for another quarterback as well.” The 4x NFL MVP Rodgers announced his decision to leave the Jets which propelled teams to circle him like sharks.

“Especially when you consider, again if your (Aaron) Rodgers is willing to take less or your (Kirk) Cousins, who comes in on the minimum because of the offset, you might say to yourself like wow. Like I can go play for that team and they’re going to have room to spend around me like sign me up for that,” he concluded. Building a stacked roster would become crucial for the Rams who look to win another NFL Championship after 2021.
So, if someone like Kirk Cousins were willing to come in at a league-minimum deal, the Rams would suddenly have extra money to build a stronger team around him. The same goes for Aaron Rodgers if he’s open to taking less. Well, why shouldn’t he? Sean McVay’s team has a stacked roster, a winning environment, and cap space to add talent. Hence, that’s definitely an attractive spot for any quarterback who wants to win a Super Bowl.
And we know how much Rodgers wants to win it, especially after being arguably humiliated by the Jets. His injury didn’t help him either.
On the other hand, Matthew Stafford is still a high-level talent. There’s no question about it. This was also evident when he had the Rams on the verge of beating the Eagles in brutal weather – the same Eagles defense that gave Patrick Mahomes a tough time. So why move on from him? That’s the big question. But as per Breer, the Rams might be looking at the bigger picture. The decision isn’t just about Stafford. It’s about the entire team and what’s best for the future, especially when the current QB is reportedly seeking a new contract worth more than $50 million per year.
So, whether it’s Stafford, Cousins, or even Aaron Rodgers, the Rams have options and they know it. Hence, it’s pretty clear that Sean McVay and the team will closely analyze targets before moving ahead with their chess piece.
Aaron Rodgers’s destination decided much before?
Slow cooking and slow NFL decisions often bring fruitful dishes for many. While saying this, we are not including Jerry Jones’s late conclusions as most times it causes frustration. But the Jets believe in this slow process. That’s the reason they waited for the right time to talk to Aaron Rodgers. Yes! The franchise thought to part ways with the 41-year-old before they welcomed their new head coach. So, it wasn’t Aaron Glenn’s idea.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, “Part of moving forward is being honest about recent history and the future—particularly with and without Aaron Rodgers. While reports surfaced after the new Jets regime was hired and during Super Bowl week indicating the organization recently leaned away from the return of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.”
He also cited how a league source mentioned an internal talk regarding the Jets’ desires to move on from Aaron Rodgers. It happened at least a week before Aaron Glenn became the head coach and Darren Mougey became the GM. Hence, it looks like everything’s clear on their part.

So, there’s no need to act like HC and GM’s input changed the outcome for Aaron Rodgers. It was set in long motion before. Well, this isn’t shocking too because after a substandard 5-12 record, Aaron Rodgers has been the center of offseason discussions.
