“It’s terrible sitting on your hands.” John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan are on their pre-draft travel tour to find the best players for their roster. Just last week, the San Francisco 49ers plucked off 16 players from their team. That’s massive. Hence, now Lynch’s bestowed the responsibility of restocking the pond with big names or big drafts. The process of which has already started!
Although John Lynch feels he is sitting on his hands, the truth is the general manager is not sitting idle. This is evident as on Wednesday, Lynch attended pro day workouts at the University of Oregon. And then the next day, he went to Stanford, five weeks ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Guess what? Probably, Wednesday’s hunt might turn out positive for the 49ers and their quarterback, Brock Purdy. How?
Well, according to OurSF49ers on X, “#49ers GM John Lynch and WR coach Leonard Hankerson were in attendance for the Stanford Pro Day and had a great look at All ACC wideout Elic Ayomanor.” On Sunday, March 2, the 49ers agreed to trade wideout Deebo Samuel to the Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

As Samuel was one of the most important pieces on the team, his trading has unquestionably affected many. Hence, to replace Deebo Samuel, John Lynch, and wide receiver coach Hankerson is eyeing another wideout of Stanford – Elic Ayomanor. But why him?
Ayomanor is actually a good number two Z-receiver for an NFL offense. According to the reports, this Canada-born player makes plays from the slot with a two-way release. In addition, the athlete has greatly contested consistent catches in the games. However, his drop rate last year was 8.7%.
Despite that, his fluid route running makes him a potential WR1 in the NFL. Hence, for John Lynch, this Stanford weapon could be a great replacement option for Brock Purdy.

Besides that, John Lynch is eyeing more recovery plans this offseason as he revealed his offseason approach.
John Lynch bandaging the wounds of the 49ers?
John Lynch made it clear: the 49ers have a plan and they’re ready to execute it! With plenty of draft picks, they’re in a strong position to make moves. Fans might wonder what’s next, but Lynch’s message is simple: trust the process.
According to OurSF49ers, John Lynch “discussed the teams’ offseason plans during Stanford’s pro day, his first public comments since free agency began (with): We’ve got this thing called the draft, and we’ve got a lot of picks. And I think the thing the fans should know is we have a plan. And we’re gonna execute that plan. And we’re excited about the opportunity.”

Comparing the last year, John Lynch further added, “Last year, we had such a good roster. I think we doubled down and said, ‘Let’s go for this thing.’ And we kinda pushed all the chips in knowing that at some point you’re gonna have to have that reset. And this was the year.”

Last year, players like Leonard Floyd made quite a difference to the team. Moreover, the player had 8.5 sacks and 42 total tackles in 2024. Those are not extraordinary numbers but they still meant something to the team.
“So guys like Leonard Floyd and Maliek — believe me, their impact was felt. They were great. It was nothing they did wrong. We just felt like it was the time to do it, and we’re excited about what we can add and replenish,” he said.
This offseason, the Niners lost fan favorites like Dre Greenlaw, Deebo Samuel, Talanoa Hufanga, and Charvarius Ward, among others. John Lynch, too, admits that it’s not easy to see those strong teammates depart. However, as the 49ers see 2025 as a reset button for themselves, they are eager to implement their recovery plan soon.
