It seems like Frank Gore Jr. will be following in his father’s footsteps. Rumors of the running back joining the San Francisco 49ers cropped up when he was reported to have met with the team at the NFL Combine. If the meeting follows through, the former Southern Mississippi player will be joining his former NFL star father’s previous home.

Frank Gore Sr. was the former runner-back for the 49ers and now serves as their front-office advisor. He retired in 2022 and spent ten long years in San Francisco after being drafted by them in 2005. In this year’s draft, his son takes his first step to enter the professional football arena.

NFL Insider Dov Kleiman reported that the San Francisco 49ers had a talk with Gore Jr. in this year’s NFL Combine. This could signal their interest in drafting the running back from Southern Mississippi for their 2024 season.

If the rumors come true, the father-son duo’s presence in the same team would be nothing short of iconic. Gore Jr.’s stats had 1131 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns as a part of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in 2023. The MVP of the East-West Shrine Bowl has an easy choice of landing spot in the San Francisco 49ers, with his father joining the front office last year.

Lynch elaborated on Gore Sr.’s role in the team, saying, “He’ll go out on the road with some of our road scouts to make school calls,” as per ESPN. The general manager also appreciated the rusher’s understanding of the sport in his statement. “He is a smart football mind, and we want to tap into it, and he wants to learn from us, so it’s a good thing for everyone involved.” The rusher’s record in the team stands at 81 touchdowns and 11,073 rushing yards.
