Michael Penix Jr. is attracting a lot of attention ahead of the NFL Draft. Projected to be a first-round pick, the University of Washington player had 4,903 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions last season. While nowhere in the same league as the top of the draft class with players like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels, Penix presents himself as an enticing option for teams with later picks.
After the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos, the Atlanta Falcons became the latest team to be reportedly showing interest in the quarterback. The Falcons have the eighth overall pick in the draft and, as per Albert Breer, might be looking at Penix as a potential rookie addition.

Breer reported that the Falcons had sent a party over to Seattle “to conduct a private workout” with Penix. This potential evaluation of the young QB could point to the team’s interest in using their Draft pick to add depth to their quarterback position. It’s also reported that head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot are among the group visiting Penix.

Earlier this month, the 13th pick holder, the Raiders, were reported to host Penix for a top-30 visit. Just a day before the meeting, the soon-to-be rookie had met with the Denver Broncos, who have the 12th pick in this year’s draft. Now, with the addition of another team to the list, it’ll be interesting to see which team finally picks up Penix for their roster.
With Atlanta, recently acquiring a new starter QB, how will Penix fit in their crew?
How will adding Penix to their roster fare for the Falcons?
After failing to enter the playoffs yet again last year, the Falcons are determined to turn things around ahead of the upcoming season. Their new head coach, Raheem Morris, enters with the aim of adding “depth in all areas of the draft,” as per Ram Digest. The former DC of the Los Angeles Rams wishes to recreate the magic of last year’s draft success.

The depth is already visible in the Falcons, given the recent trade of Kirk Cousins and the potential interest in drafting a rookie QB from the Draft. The former Vikings veteran joined Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke in the position, and the addition of Penix will increase the number to 4 quarterbacks. However, whether Atlanta will use their 8th pick for Penix still remains a point of uncertainty. Some analysts believe the franchise will save their first-round pick and hope to draft Penix in the second round at no. 43.
The Atlanta Falcons seem to like Michael Penix Jr. a lot as a prospect. While he isn’t going to them at No. 8, Atlanta could trade back into the latter part of round one, or hope he falls to them at No. 43 in the second round. #DirtyBirds https://t.co/VnMIWJs29W

The Falcons have some big decisions to make as the NFL Draft inches closer. The addition of a rookie QB would help secure the position, especially in light of Cousins’ Achilles injury from last season. As for Penix, if not the Falcons, there are a couple of other teams ready to scoop him up to solve their QB qualms.
