Russell Wilson’s 2024 season with the Steelers has been a wild ride—one minute, he’s leading the charge; the next, he’s the guy fans want out. After a season that had everyone thinking playoffs and ended in heartbreak, the Steelers are now facing a tough decision. But while Steel City is calling for his head, there might be a surprising team willing to give him a shot. A team that just so happens to be in need of a fresh start, too.
Safe to say the New York Giants have had a dismal season. With 3 wins and 14 losses, the Giants finished last in the NFC East conference. They have the 3rd pick for the 2025 Draft and will be targeting a QB, with Daniel Jones released from the payroll. But unsurprisingly, they are facing limited options. They can’t land a young long-term quarter-back, a luxury that comes with Pick 1 and 2. No, the Giants have to look for other options, like going for a veteran quarterback with a reputation. Enter Russ.
Wilson’s experience at the highest level makes him the perfect candidate for the Giants. They don’t need a flashy response, they need some consistency, someone authoritative, something that Wilson’s leadership can bring. And according to a FoxSports reporter, head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen will start the next season under pressure to deliver positive results. Fans won’t be expecting a Super Bowl triumph, but they will certainly demand some fight from the team and some respectability on the pitch. And that is where Wilson can pitch in. Or let’s say hold the team’s hand and help them stand up.

Sure, the Giants won’t be getting the Russell Wilson of 2013, who led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl triumph. But class is permanent. The man himself wants to use the 2025 year to prove his critics wrong, as he wrote on Instagram, “Restart. New year. It’s a lifestyle.” Maybe Wilson is charged up to power the Giants to the playoffs and show the fans he can still do it.
Still, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. All these are rumors, and he is still a Steelers player officially, despite the multiple factors at play that may go against Wilson and force the Steelers to offload him.

Wilson’s current season with the Steelers was a tale of two halves. After missing the start due to injury, Mike Tomlin handed the reins to Justin Fields. Fields stepped up, leading the team to a 4-2 record during his tenure. However, when Russ did return, Fields was benched, and Wilson quickly re-established himself as the starter, guiding the Steelers to 6 wins in their next 7 games. At 10-3, with the AFC North title within reach, there were no doubts about Wilson’s leadership.
But what followed turned the script on its head. 4 remaining matches in the season, all defeats. And to drive the fans completely over the edge, the Steelers got dumped out of the playoffs in the first round itself to make it 5 consecutive losses – all with Russell Wilson starting. The fans have completely turned on Wilson. Add to that, not everyone in the coaching staff is on board with Wilson being the QB.

As per Steelers reporter and correspondent Mark Kabaly, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith preferred Justin Fields to remain the starting QB. Smith even had a difficult working relationship with Wilson, although anything concrete never came out. All these sets up a complicated situation, especially with both Fields’ and Wilson’s contract situations being in limbo right now.
All in all, snapping up Wilson will be massive for the Giants, who can start a rebuild thereafter. And the transfer seems to be possible. However, Wilson’s heart looks to be in Pittsburgh, judging by his emotional posts on Instagram. It feels like he wants to keep wearing the black and yellow. He wants to go out there and redeem himself to the Steelers fans. And we’re here for it!
