As the football season reaches its final stages, everything increases with it too. Be it the fans’ passion for the game or the players. But football, combined with this sense of urgency and increased passion, results more often than not in infractions. And the NFL doesn’t take these infractions lightly.

This year alone, the NFL has collected more than $5 million in fines for on-field infractions. This is a gigantic leap from last year, a leap of 161% to be precise. Amongst the recently released data by the NFL for Week 14 on field infractions-related fines, it’s no shock that Roquan Smith is mentioned.

For the Week 14 matchup, the Baltimore Ravens welcomed the Los Angeles Rams at their home M&T Bank Stadium. It was a closely contested affair between the cross-conference teams. The Ravens did manage to pull out another win though by 37-31. But LB, Roquan Smith, has been fined for the game.

In the second quarter, while the Rams were trying to score, Smith committed a facemask penalty as tried to bring down the Rams’ TE, Davis Allen. Subsequently, the NFL has charged him with a whopping $10,927 fine for this infraction.

But Smith can find solace in that he won’t be the only one who has to pay the fines. Apart from him, 22 other players have been fined in Week 14. And neither is he the only player on the team to be fined, nor is he the one who’s forking out the most for fines this week.

The NFL is here to collect its due

Though less than 1% of the plays from Week 14 have been deemed infractions resulting in fines. With only 23 players, one of them is Roquan Smith’s teammate Marcus Williams. The Ravens Safety has also been fined in the category of ‘Unnecessary Roughness’ but he has to pay only $6,472.

The Week 14’s highest-paid fine is shared by two different players. Trey Hendrickson DE for the Cincinnati Bengals and Amani Hooker Safety for the Tennessee Titans, both have to pay $21,855 each.
