The Chiefs have won the AFC championship once again and are marching towards making history. They have beaten the Bills yet again, in a rematch of the 2020 championship matchup. Patrick Mahomes already said it after winning last year’s SB. Mahomes said, “We’re going for that three-peat. Don’t get it twisted, we’re doing it. Three times. First time in NFL history, we’re doing it,” during a celebration rally on February 14, 2024. And here we are! They are so close to the three-peat. But before moving forward, a former NFL legend has given a strong verdict on Patrick Mahomes. Wanna know who’s the legend and what’s his take? Let’s dive in.
Mark Schlereth, the former NFL star, has imposed his take on the Tom Brady–Patrick Mahomes comparison. He has praised the Chiefs a lot but was cautious when asked, “If Mahomes wins this one and the three-peat, would you put him past Brady with this?” Schlereth replied, “Well, I still think he has to go Brady with seven total rings, right? And doing it in two different franchises…” But keeping up with the mood at the moment, he added, “But man, this is the greatest run. Probably the greatest three-year run we have ever had.” Goes without saying, appearing in the NFL playoffs for seven straight years is wild!

It’s a fact that Tom Brady is a seven-time Super Bowl winner, but what Patrick Mahomes has done is historical. He was drafted in the first round (10th overall) of the 2017 draft. He has never missed the playoffs, with his earliest exit being in the wildcard round in his rookie year. The duo of him and HC Andy Reid has been unstoppable. Starting in 2018, this is his and the Chiefs’ seventh straight run to the Championship or beyond in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Tom Brady has also come close to a three-peat on a couple of occasions. He won the SB with the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004, but lost in the divisional round in 2005. On another occasion, he won the SB in 2016 and 2018 but was dashed by the Eagles who won their only Lombardi (thus far) in SB LII in 2017.
So, the GOAT debate is on, but calls in favor of Mahomes will see an increasing trend if the Chiefs make history. But before Patrick Mahomes meets Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts in New Orleans, he has sent a heartfelt message to fallen comrade Josh Allen.
Patrick Mahomes’ heartfelt message for Josh Allen
The 2024 AFC and NFC Championship games are over. The Eagles are gonna take on the Chiefs in New Orleans. But y’all know, the playoffs-before-playoffs game was the Bills vs Chiefs. Nobody could deny the tensions and narratives mounting across their years of rivalry. But Patrick Mahomes ended all doubt and pummeled the Bills again. After yesterday’s loss, Josh Allen became the 1st ever quarterback to go 0-4 head-to-head against another quarterback in NFL playoff history. So heartbreaking for Buffalo fans.
Mahomes understands the sentiment and has sent a heartfelt message of love for Josh Allen. When asked about him after the game, the Chiefs Superstar QB said, “I always feel for him, he’s a great player, an amazing competitor, and an awesome dude who I respect so much.” He also added, “I’m sorry it had to be us. But, you know, we compete, and someone has to win.” He was talking to NYT’s Athletic. But before this, he also addressed questions about Allen right after the game.

When CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson asked Mahomes about the Bills #17, he said, “I have so much respect for Josh, man. Just a true competitor, a true warrior, a great football player and they always come down to the wire. Luckily we were on the winning side this time.” The loss would be the deepest wound, as Allen couldn’t bring the Championship trophy home or get past Mt. Mahomes even on his fourth post-season try.
Allen addressed his POV in a post-game press conference. He said, “To be the champs, you have to beat the champs, and we didn’t beat them.” But Buffalo fans are so supportive of their QB that they still believe next season will be theirs.
