Are Browns fans justified in cheering Watson's injury, or does it cross a moral line?

What happened in the Sunday game in Ohio happens rarely in the league! Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, known for his unpopular behavior with women and arguably poor performance, lay on the ground in pain. During his attempt to escape the pocket and gain some extra yards, Watson sustained a non-contact injury. And shortly after that, the quarterback was seen having his head buried in the grass with devastating pain. Now, in such situations, the crowd of both teams prays for the player. However, that wasn’t the case with the 29-year-old.

As Deshaun Watson was carted off the field in tears, some Browns’ fans booed at him, expressing their happiness on his season-ending injury. Observing this, many were disturbed, as Myles Garrett too, stated, “At the end of the day, it’s just a game, and you don’t boo anybody being injured, and you don’t celebrate anyone’s downfall.” However, on one hand, his teammates are showing concern for Watson, and NFL legend Mark Schlereth defended the ones who booed at the QB.

In a recent episode of The Stinkin Truth Podcast with Mark Schlereth, the host was joined by Mike Evans to discuss the NFL teams, including the Browns. During this talk, the former guard commented on how Cleveland’s defense is strong, saying that even though they recently won by just a touchdown, the offense didn’t really shine. Hence, now that the quarterback is out, he believes the Browns might actually perform better offensively without him. Not only that!

Schlereth further added that Cleveland fans showed their frustration by cheering when Watson left the game. Hence, while defending the fans’ motive, Schlereth pointed out thatThey’re not booing his injury….they’re not cheering his injury; they’re cheering they don’t have to watch that drek anymore. Like they were just excited not to have to (see him).” Watson is out due to his season-ending injury. And Schlereth thinks “their offense will probably be better without Deshaun Watson.” Also, the 58-year-old sees Cleveland’s defense as solid, as he thinks the team might improve overall.

Well, despite these comments and boos from fans being disrespectful and something they should not do, the team and quarterback’s frustration is real. It’s because which fan would want to see their team sit at 1-6 in the NFL standings. Nevertheless, Deshaun Watson is out now and he won’t be coming for the remainder of the season.

According to the reports, Deshaun Watson is suffering from an Achilles tear. Also, he was scheduled to have his ruptured Achilles tendon repaired on Friday, October 25. Very soon Packers team physician Dr. Robert Anderson scheduled the operation. Good news. He has successfully undergone the surgery. The reports suggest that the athlete would be completely healthy to return for the start of the 2025 season. But for this, he needs to keep in mind the upcoming setbacks during his rehab process.

Watson exited this season completing “137 of 216 passing attempts for 1,148 yards and five touchdowns.” Now at his place, the team will start with 10-year veteran Jameis Winston, who on Friday, expressed, “I view this as an opportunity to go out there and be my very best. And when I’m my very best, I’m a great NFL starter.
