Does the NFL kickoff flyover give you chills, or is it just another pre-game ritual?

Once again, the thrill among NFL fans will reach a whole new level! Arrowhead Stadium will buzz with excitement as the two greatest AFC teams—the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens—of last season pull on their cleats to battle against each other, probably reviving the tensions and excitement from the 2023 AFC Championship game that saw the Chiefs emerging as victors.

Patrick Mahomes’ team will host the Ravens on Thursday, September 5, at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. But before the kickoff at the opener, which is scheduled to start at 8:20 p.m. ET, the NFL fans and Kansas City, Missouri would be able to witness US Air Force Aircraft. So, keeping the tradition alive, which aircraft is going to perform this time? Well, the answer to this is – “The pregame flyover will be done by a B-2 Stealth Bomber out of Whiteman Air Force Base’s 509th Bomb Squadron.”

This B-2 stealth bomber, with a wingspan of 172 feet, is Missouri’s Air National Guard, which is reportedly used “to support Pacific Air Forces’ Bomber Task Force missions.” According to the NFL, “the flyover display is a symphony of high powered supersonic capable jet engines blazing across the sky at the conclusion of America’s beautiful anthem.” This tradition generally performed in the season openers and even in the Super Bowls started in 1968.

Besides that, it’s also interesting to note that the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber was also used in the AFC Championship game of 2023. During that time, a master sergeant of the 131st Bomb Wing said that there would be a lot of Chiefs fans “in our wing who will be prepping, fueling and launching the jet.

And now, it’s time for another show at Arrowhead. This time, in the Chiefs-Ravens 2024 opener!
