After just three seasons in charge, the Chicago Bears fired their former head coach, Matt Eberflus. This was the fifth time the franchise changed their head coach since January 2012. Now the question is, who is going to come next?
Thomas Brown has taken up the role as an interim coach for now. However, GM Ryan Poles is still in search of a new HC. Talking about the situation, an NFL insider revealed some interesting insights that he thought Caleb Williams’s Bears need to follow this time.
During a recent discussion on The Herd with Colin Cowherd show, NFL insider, Albert Breer, shared his thoughts on what the Bears need in their hunt for a new head coach. He emphasized, “I think they need someone who’s going to be willing to stand up to ownership, to stand up to the front office, to really be a leader, not just of the guys in the locker (room).”

He even pointed out that over the last 15 years, the Bears have been stuck in a cycle. They had been bouncing between different coaching styles offensive, defensive, tough disciplinarians, and players’ coaches. This inconsistency has left them without a clear identity. Hence, Breer believes the next head coach must come in with a vision, stick to it, and establish a true sense of direction for Caleb Williams’s team.
Not only that! He even compared the situation to what Detroit faced before hiring Dan Campbell. Recalling the same, the insider expressed, “I think it’s sort of similar to what Detroit needed….I think one of the most impressive things about Detroit, Colin, is those guys stood there on day one and they said they are gonna build something and they built exactly what they said…..I think that’s what Chicago needs more than they need just some guy who’s going to develop one player on the roster.”
So, all in all, Albert Breer requested Caleb Williams and Ryan Poles’s Bears to follow the same path of building their team just like Detroit did. And for that, they first need to hire someone who can be a true leader. One who can stand up against the ownership or the team whenever needed. But who could be that one person? Well, Breer also suggested a few names whom he thinks can take up the role perfectly. Ben Johnson, Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, and Aaron Glenn could be possible candidates for the role.
Well, we’ll have to see with whom Caleb Williams and Ryan Poles’s team choose to move forward. Until then, Poles’s recent remarks about the fired coach itself tell what he wants from the new one.
Ryan Poles finally revealed what went wrong with Caleb Williams’s team
The Chicago Bears made a tough call last week, firing Matt Eberflus as head coach. The decision wasn’t easy, but it felt necessary. GM Ryan Poles, team president Kevin Warren, and chairman George McCaskey, all sat down for a long meeting after Thanksgiving. And by the end of that meeting, they all decided Eberflus’s fate. But why?

Well, Poles explained during Monday’s press conference that the move came from two main concerns. First, Eberflus kept making poor late-game decisions, costing the Bears winnable games. Second, and maybe worse, the locker room was falling apart, as the players were losing faith.
But it’s not like that the team didn’t give him a chance. They had tried to give Eberflus a chance earlier, where he had recovered from bad starts, like last year’s turnaround after a 0-4 start. But now after a humiliating loss to Detroit (where Caleb Williams’s team faced poor time management), there was no more waiting.
The risk of letting the team spiral out of control was too high. So, the Bears made the call!
