Could Maxx Crosby be the missing piece for the Lions, or is he too valuable for the Raiders?

Over the past few days, the league has been buzzing with hot trade rumors. The latest involves Maxx Crosby, who is seen as a potential target for many teams. This speculation gained traction after the Raiders traded their wide receiver, Davante Adams, to his likely preferred team, the Jets. Although Raiders owner Mark Davis and the franchise have shut down Crosby’s trade rumors, an NFL insider suggests that anything is possible.

In the latest episode of the Dan Patrick Show, Tom Pelissero discussed Detroit Lions’ trade rumors. The Lions are likely searching for a strong defensive end, especially after Aidan Hutchinson’s season-ending injury in Week 6. This has sparked speculation that the team might pursue Maxx Crosby. However, despite the franchise’s public denials, Pelissero still believes Crosby could be a trade option. Why?

Pelissero explained his reasoning with logic. During the October 16, 2024, discussion, the NFL insider said, “….there’s really only maybe a dozen players in the entire league, who are absolutely no chance, he’s not getting traded and that’s you’re talking about like the Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson since he signed the contract extension, Josh Allen, Justin Jefferson type of players in the world. Everybody else, it’s like there’s probably a price that you could get them for.” Hence, Maxx Crosby could fall into the category of players who are potentially tradable. So, does this mean the Raiders could still trade Maxx Crosby?

Although according to Pelissero it might be possible, as per Mark Davis, “It’s unfortunate today, but there’s so much outside chatter that is not true.” He emphasized, “My basic thing is never to answer all that stuff because, otherwise, you get trapped in this black hole. It’s just not happening.” So, on one hand, Davis is confident that Maxx Crosby isn’t going anywhere. On the other hand, analysts like NBC Sports’ Josh Alper believe, “There might be a price that makes Davis change his mind about moving Crosby, but it would almost certainly be a prohibitive one and there’s no sign that anyone is in a rush to pay it.”

Yes! That can be true, as Lions’ head coach, Dan Campbell also seems not in a hurry.

Is Dan Campbell ready to trade Maxx Crosby or others?

Aidan Hutchinson went down on Sunday with a fractured tibia and fibula. Following this potentially season-ending injury, rumors circulated that the Lions might seek a replacement during the trade window. So, the question is, will coach Dan Campbell consider trading for someone like Maxx Crosby?

Well, according to Campbell, “Look, we’re open to anything…..We are not going to be in a hurry…..we’re not going to just make a move to make it. It’s got to be right. It’s got to be the right guy, and the pieces have to fall in place.” This suggests the franchise is be open to trades, but they’ll only make a move if the right opportunity presents itself—and they’re not in a rush.

As for Raiders‘ Maxx Crosby, if he commands a hefty price, the Lions have the resources to make it happen. They possess future draft capital and enough salary cap space to potentially bring him on board.
