The NFL offseason was mostly filled with sharp turns around the trades situation of the Niners‘ star, Brandon Aiyuk. While the 2023 Super Bowl runners-up were still in limbo regarding Aiyuk’s contract, an NFL insider has just shared his takes on one of the potential trades of the WR. So, what did Adam Schefter say?
On the PatMcAfeeShow of 29th August, the analyst said, “On Thursday, August first, I thought a trade to Cleveland was happening, I was imminent. And then it didn’t get done.” While emphasizing Aiyuk’s potential to join the Browns after they offered a lucrative contract, Schefter said that it was all on Aiyuk about whether he “wanted to go” or not. “They were offering a lot. That wasn’t the issue. The issue was that he preferred to go elsewhere,” the insider opined on the PatMcAfee show.
"The hold up with Cleveland all along has been Brandon Aiyuk's willingness to accept a trade to the Browns..
The contract would've been done there if he wanted to go..
The compensation would've been done there if he wanted to go" ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/MGpYYIvfes

Well, Adam was not the only one who seemed to be aware of Aiyuk’s lack of interest in joining Cleveland, “I’m told after talking to multiple sources that Brandon Aiyuk did not want to play for the Patriots, and he doesn’t want to play for the Browns,” per reporter Kimberly Martin. Furthermore, his way to the Browns seemed to be completely blocked after the Browns decided to restructure Deshaun Watson’s contract.
Well, Watson’s contract was restructured by converting his $44.79 million base salary to a signing bonus, which finally created over $62 million cap space for his team. But what did this opening of cap space indicate? Most thought of this as a potential for the Niners’ WR to join his division rivals, but not Adam Schefter.” I don’t think the Browns opened up that cap space with the idea that we are getting close to making a trade,” per the analyst.
And it looks like he might be right. Why? Well, Brandon Aiyuk was waiting for a new deal from his home team, the 49ers. So, it seems like the Browns were not the potential home for the WR. Moreover, he has previously expressed his wishes to stay in San Francisco to NFL analyst Ryan Clarke, earlier this year.

So, how is he doing with the team where he expressed his wishes to stay?
Brandon Aiyuk’s current situation with the 49ers
Well, Aiyuk has not been seen attending the training camps, as his contract with the Niners was still in a dilemma. Moreover, as per coach Kyle Shanahan, the WR was dealing with neck and back soreness that prevented him from participating in the Niners’ practice sessions. Furthermore, his injury prevented him from attracting fines of $40,000 per day for missing the training camps. But what did Brandon do after he was medically cleared on Tuesday?

To everyone’s surprise, Brandon Aiyuk decided not to participate in Wednesday’s training camp. On the other hand, the Niners weren’t ready to address his contract situation if he did not attend the training camps. But before his shocking action on Wednesday, Lynch was quite confident of resolving the issue between the Niners and Aiyuk as he said, “I’ve seen these things look dire before, and those things can quickly be forgotten.”
But, it looks like Aiyuk has missed his chance. He is still under the contract that is set to pay him $14.124 million on the fifth-year option with the Niners. But amidst the ongoing contract situation, will he be able to give his best in the season opener?
