Is Bo Nix the next Russell Wilson, or is this just wishful thinking from desperate fans?

Bo Nix is getting better and better each time he steps on the field. His performance in the game against the Packers might force non-BoLievers to switch their stance. But despite his jaw-dropping performance, Sean Payton still hasn’t bestowed him with a QB1 badge. The head coach’s recent presser left everyone on a cliffhanger.

Addressing the matter, the hosts of NFL Live revealed their utmost faith in the first-round pick. In fact, Adam Schefter believes that Nix is showing same flashes of brilliance that Russell Wilson did in his rookie year. Will that stand true in the future? Judging by his preseason performance, Nix might just take the league by a storm.

“Here’s what they say, he’s getting better everyday at practice and when you watch him, he pops in games the way that I think very few rookie quarterbacks have. I go back over time, and I think, who stood out as a late round pick or somebody you might not be expecting to pop so early? Russell Wilson did that in Seattle as a rookie,” Adam Schefter admitted on NFL Live.

Let’s go back to the 2012 preseason when Russell Wilson stepped on the field as a rookie. Russell Wilson was really a dual threat quarterback who could run fast, had a gunslinging arm that threw deep passes, and even excelled at breaking tackles and short vertical passes. Pete Carroll wasn’t so sure of him when he first got drafted in the Seahawks.

Despite the concerns surrounding his height, Wilson proved everyone wrong when the Seahawks went 4-0 in the 2012 preseason. When that happened Matt Flynn lost his QB1 spot to Russell Wilson. 2012 was also the season when the Seahawks went undefeated at home and when it came to throwing passes, Wilson was as quick as a gun. That’s a quality that Bo Nix is displaying in the NFL right now.

What stands out about Bo Nix is his passing on the run, his quick average release time and how quickly he reads the defenses and adjusts himself on the fly. In just 2 games, the QB has amassed 205 passing yards, 29 rushing yards, and 2 TDs with a 116.7 passer rating. He might have formed those habits during his time with the Ducks. He wasn’t doing so well at Auburn, but when he moved to Oregon, Bo Nix did a 360. Adapting to a new playbook is not easy, but Nix did that and did it with poise.

Russell Wilson scored 3,118 yards and 26 touchdowns in his rookie year. Can Bo Nix do the same? Judging by his current form, Nix looks like he’s NFL ready and gathering those kinds of numbers will be a cakewalk for him. Despite this form, Payton has not given him a QB1 spot.

The Packers lost 27-2 to the Broncos and Nix completely annihilated their defense. Nix didn’t take a sack and didn’t throw a pick either. Rather, he left everyone in awe when he completed 8 of his 9 passes over 80 yards and even threw a touchdown in the second quarter. Everyone was sure that Nix will be the starting QB, but things changed after Payton’s presser after the game.

“He’s played well. I’m not announcing any starting quarterback tonight,” Payton said. “I’ll let you guys know when the time comes. I thought he played well.” Right now, the question should be, who’s going to be the backup QB, Jarrett Stidham or Zach Wilson, and not who’s going to be the starting QB, this is what the analysts voiced on NFL Live. Nix has done enough to claim that spot, per the hosts. Even Dan Orlovsky was shocked when he heard Payton’s comments.

“He’s their starting quarterback,” said Orlovsky. “I’d be surprised if it’s not announced in the next 24 hours. How quickly the right or proper decision is being made by Bo Nix is the thing that stands out the most and that’s exactly what Sean Payton wants.”

Bo Nix has an amazing presence of mind on the field. He didn’t make any hasty decisions and relied on shallow passes, he knew when and where his receivers were going to be and that perfectly aligns with Sean Payton’s west coast offense derived from Bill Walsh. Probably, Payton doesn’t want to jinx his decision and he’s holding on to it for an appropriate time. Do you see Bo Nix becoming the QB1? Let us know in the comments.
