Is Brandon Aiyuk worth the high price tag, or are the 49ers overvaluing him?

The Washington Commanders might be the only team which can acquire Brandon Aiyuk! The 2024 preseason of the San Francisco 49ers was on and everybody saw the wide receiver present at the finale in Las Vegas on Friday. As obvious, he stood at the sidelines due to his ongoing contract dispute, after an alleged healed back injury. But his presence gave hope to many that Aiyuk might stay in San Francisco. However, with a recent update, it seems the time of Aiyuk’s farewell from the Niners is arriving soon!

The Commanders traded wide receiver Jahan Dotson last week, after his just seven catches for 83 yards with zero touchdowns in his last five games. This means, the WR’s role in Washington is open now and Brandon Aiyuk might just be the right fit. But according to an NFL insider, there are other few points as well that need to be addressed if the Commanders want Aiyuk as a teammate for Jayden Daniels.

NFL insider, Matt Maiocco, recently shared a tweet on his official X account revealing the price of Brandon Aiyuk. He said, “If Washington is back in play, it would take a 2nd, 3rd and maybe something else AND a contract Aiyuk would be willing to accept to finalize a deal.” Maiocco mentioned “If Washington is back in play” tagging senior FOX Sports writer, Peter Schrager.

Schrager wrote, “Washington GM Adam Peters just spent 7 years in SF w/ John Lynch and was integral in SF 2020 Draft. Jayden Daniels’ go – to guy at ASU in 19? Brandon Ayiuk. 1,192 yards. New 3rd from Dotson trade….As much as PITT has gotten all the buzz, shouldn’t Wash/SF be talking?

So, does that mean to rebuild a team where Aiyuk and Daniels are together, the Commanders might be making this move? As they have already traded Jahan Dotson to the Eagles. In a crux, Washington is actively working to improve its wide receiver lineup. With a new leadership in place, led by Adam Peters from the 49ers, the team seems to be exploring options that could bring in top talent like Brandon Aiyuk.

Peters has a strong connection with Aiyuk from his time with the 49ers, and Aiyuk’s history with Washington’s No. 2 draft pick, Jayden Daniels, adds to the possibility. Aiyuk’s stats in 11 games with Daniels in his freshman season at ASU was – “60 receptions, 1141 receiving yards, and 7 TDs.” Given this good performance, it’s clear why Aiyuk might be a good addition to the Daniels-led team if he gets traded.

Brandon Aiyuk and his connection with Jayden Daniels might incline him toward the Commanders

Is Brandon Aiyuk worth the high price tag, or are the 49ers overvaluing him?

Have an interesting take?

Brandon Aiyuk loves being a 49er, but what if things don’t go as planned in his contract talks? Well, he would like to have a reunion with an old friend. In June, Aiyuk opened up on “The Pivot” podcast about his close connection with Jayden Daniels, his former college teammate at Arizona State. If the 49ers deal doesn’t work out, Aiyuk shared that instead of joining other teams, playing alongside Daniels in Washington would be a dream come true.

During the interview, he expressed, “If it doesn’t go in a direction in which we all hope for it to go, then [being traded to Washington and joining Daniels] would be great. It would be great to link up with a great friend of mine, a brother, a great person, teammate and player that I feel can take my game to the next level.

Their bond goes back to 2019 when Aiyuk had a standout season with 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns. But of course, making this reunion a reality wouldn’t be simple. Aiyuk is still under contract with the 49ers for over $14 million this season, as he is expecting around $30 million. And any trade to Washington would need to match that value.

So will the Commanders be able to seal a deal with Aiyuk or will the 49ers resign their star WR? Only the season will tell! For now, the idea of Aiyuk and Daniels reuniting doesn’t seem bad and has fans buzzing
