Zach Wilson’s future in the New York Jets has been a constant point of uncertainty this season. Being the 2nd overall pick of last season, the rookie QB was forced to step up in the pivotal role when starter Aaron Rodgers had a season-ending injury. Wilson’s lackluster performance couldn’t help the Jets, and their season ended with a dismal 7-10.

So, it is highly plausible that the Jets will trade the young quarterback to get a stronger backup for a recovering Rodgers. With Aaron Donald’s recent retirement, a new landing spot opens up. Recently, a prominent NFL Insider revealed another aspect that makes the Rams a prospective home for Wilson.

Albert Breer feels the Los Angeles Rams will be “a logical landing spot” for Wilson. He pointed out the recent signing of Jimmy Garoppolo in a one-year deal as the starting QB. Breer is of the opinion that the young Jets quarterback “could use a reset and to sit for a year” before he makes a comeback.

Breer also revealed that Mike LaFleur, the offensive coordinator of the Rams, who previously coached Wilson in the Jets, would be up for a reunion. According to last year’s reports, LaFleur was dissatisfied with Wilson’s performance and had voiced out his opinions to the franchise. However, the OC might be looking for a fresh start with Wilson.

When LaFleur admitted regrets about the Wilson situation

Last season, Wilson’s failure to carry the team in the absence of Rodgers prompted rumors of his impending departure from the Jets. LaFleur, the offensive coordinator of the team, had also shared his thoughts about the young QB’s disappointing play. However, before parting his ways with the Jets, the OC took accountability and conceded that the team might have been a little harsh on Wilson, as per the NYPost.

LaFleur said, “For two years, we haven’t done our job with him.” He further continued, “Any player at any position that isn’t producing to the level they’re capable of, as a coach, you’ve failed them.” He also expressed that “in hindsight,” he feels that Wilson “would have benefitted him to sit back and learn a little bit and watch a veteran.” According to him, Wilson would have improved his skills by practicing and watching the games from a “backseat.”

With LaFleur now in the Rams, we might see him reunite with Wilson and re-start their journey to hone the quarterback’s skills. As for Wilson, wherever he lands in the upcoming season, he would be aiming for a comeback and emphasize his position as a former 2nd overall draft pick.
