Didn’t y’all think the moment Jets pulled the plug on Aaron Rodgers, his NFL journey was over? Well, at 41 even if you thought that was it for the 4-time NFL MVP you were probably not wrong. Rodgers never looked half a player, he was at Green Bay in his two years as a member of Gang Green. Actually, 1 if you won’t count his 1st year that ended in 4 snaps. However, Rodgers, who might have tarnished a bit of his NFL legacy playing as a Jets QB. Still has a chance to prove himself, screaming he never was the problem. And that opportunity could actually come in the form of Jets’ neighbors, the Giants. Like NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes Aaron Rodgers to the Giants could go through even if the Big Blues draft a new franchise QB.
Speaking from the NFL Combine, Rapoport thinks Matthew Stafford staying with the Rams had huge ramifications around the league. Rodgers was probably thinking LA could have been an option if Stafford had moved on. However, that door has since slammed shut on the face of the future Hall of Famer. So, with a clear desire to continue playing for at least a year or two. Rodgers to the Giants might actually happen. Here’s the reason Rapoport gave to make his claim stronger.
“If they draft a quarterback at one or three or wherever they end up drafting. They probably need some sort of a bridge starter. Aaron Rodgers, you know, is going to have a little chip on his shoulder, wants to prove everyone right, wants to show that he’s still got it. Still does want to play. If he could do it in the same city as he was with the Jets, obviously that would be something that he would like.” Imagine this scenario where Rodgers, who once said ‘JetLife’ referring to the Jets and the Giants sharing MetLife Stadium, ends up changing his Gang Greens for Big Blues.

This will surely further dampen his popularity within the Jets Nation. But can you really blame Rodgers for still having the desire to prove himself at this level? Of course, his first season ended in 4 snaps. However, he did return to finish with 3,897 yards and 28 TDs. Like it was among the best seasons a Jets QB had for a long time. Yes, he might not be a long-term solution anymore at 41. Still, the Giants could do a lot with Rodgers in their locker room. He could be a mentor to Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, either one who the Giants pick using their 3rd overall.
Hmm! 3rd overall. So, the latest rumor is that the Giants are playing with the idea of acquiring the No.1 overall. And if they do, then Rodgers’ wish to prove himself as a New Yorker might never come true.

New York Giants eyeballing the No.1 pick
Compared to last year, where 5 QBs were taken in the top 10, this year’s QB class is a bit short-handed. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the only ones who are predicted to be picked within the top 10. Other QBs like Will Howard, Jalen Milroe, and Jaxson Dart are all late first-rounders or second-rounders, at the very least. Maybe that’s why the Giants are not taking any gamble in waiting till No.3. Both the Titans and the Browns are gunning for a QB. And are predicted to use their No.1 and No. 2 picks on either Ward or Sanders. So, by the time the Giants are on the clock, they will probably have to draft Travis Hunter or take a veteran route.
Of course, Hunter wouldn’t be a bad pick. But he is not a QB. And the Giants urgently need a signal-caller. The only one they have right now is Tommy DeVito. Surely, they wouldn’t want to start the new season with DeVito ball. However, trading for the No.1 pick means the Giants will have to give up a lot. The last team that decided to trade for the No.1 pick was the Panthers in 2023. They gave up No.9 overall, a second-round pick, a 2o24 first-round pick to the Bears for Bryce Young.
And if you take the example of Young. He still hasn’t lived up to his expectations as the No.1 overall. So, it’s not always about drafting higher, it’s about drafting smarter. Instead of thinking theoretically, the Giants have to think practically. Because trading for the No.1 pick and getting a bust probably in Ward or Sanders will seal the fate of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll.

They are already living on the edge, and this season will be either do or die for them. Perform or perish. And the Giants fumbling their next choice of franchise QB will result in the latter for the pair of Daboll and Schoen.
