The Super Bowl loss brought a tough call for Travis Kelce to make. Should he retire or play a couple of more seasons? See, the greatest tight end of the league is now 35 years old, and his performance has declined, especially this season. Now, some believe it might be time for him to hang it up, while others adhere that he still has the fuel to go on for a couple more years.
But looks like the tight end is in no rush to make a call after that Super Bowl heartbreak. He’s got a year left on his deal, but with the clock ticking on his future, the pressure’s only getting louder. And let’s be real—sitting on the fence never did anyone any favors. The catch? Whether Kelce comes with a decision, anytime soon or not, Adam Schefter is sure about his future.
On Tuesday, Schefter was asked about Kelce’s future on his podcast, “What do you see for Travis Kelce’s future? A lot of people say in retirement. He said, ‘Hey listen I could play several more years, I may want to play several more years.’ Where do we stand right now with Travis Kelce’s future?” In response, Schefter cleared air and stated that Kelce’s gonna return for another season with the Chiefs. “Well, the Super Bowl is what 10 days old now since the two teams played it? So look, Travis Kelce is going to go through a lot of different machinations here,” he said.

“There’s going to be a lot of different dynamics that are entered in but as we tap this and again I keep doing this, but it’s because it’s the fact that things change as we tape this on Tuesday, February 18th. Today, my understanding and belief is that he is leaning towards coming back to play again. That’s not how he would want to end his NFL career.” The Chiefdom can take a sigh of relief for a while now. BUT! It’s not as simple as it sounds.
You see, Kelce can earn a whopping $11.5 million roster bonus, in addition to his $17.5 million in total salary, only if he decides to return to the field in 2025. But the thing is, he has less than a month (March 14) to make the call. On top of that, his age is gonna be a big factor in whether he runs it back for the 2025-26 season. I mean, he probably had the worst season of his 12-year long career, having recorded just 823 yards and racked up just 3 touchdowns.
Then there are his other ventures that are making headlines faster than Taylor Swift switching eras on tour. And Schefter also believes that if his movie and media gig come into play, he might not return to play one-more season. “Could some movie company or media company come to him tomorrow and make him an offer that would change his mind? Absolutely. Because he’s Travis Kelce. He’s a superstar and there are going to be great things that await him after his career,” he further added.
But one thing’s for sure—Kelce isn’t looking to call it quits on a Super Bowl loss. And if you ask Adam Schefter, he’s betting on a 2025 comeback.

Travis Kelce should take time: Peyton Manning
Losing the Super Bowl stung—Kelce felt it, Mahomes felt it, Reid felt it, and yeah, the whole Chiefs squad did too. But that loss did more than just hurt—it sparked serious questions about Kelce’s future. With age creeping in and his performance seeing some ups and downs, retirement rumors were bound to pop up. And what is Kelce doing?
He’s doing what he was supposed to do. To take time before making that huge call. And that’s what Peyton Manning’s hoping for him to do. “I hope he takes some time,” Manning told E! News. “Take some time. Take a full month. Let some things digest and calm down. He can make a better decision then…I hope he comes back and plays. He’s fun to watch, but he’s got to do what’s best for him.”

The former NFL quarterback who actually retired when he was 39 believes that Kelce should not make a rushed decision. And the tight end also acknowledged the same on his New Heights podcast with his brother. He revealed that the biggest thing for him right now is to be with his teammates and his coaches after the Chiefs fell short to the historic 3-peat.

“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year,” he said. “Right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. … I’m not making any crazy decisions, but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding that there’s a lot goes into this thing.” The three-time Super Bowl champion has made it clear that this situation is a tough reality, and he’s gonna take some time before coming to a decision.
