Will the Bears' coaching change finally unlock Caleb Williams' potential, or is it just another false hope?

Finally, the Bears have made the much-needed change. After week 10, the team struggled with a 4-5 win-loss record and was at the bottom of the NFC North division. HC Matt Eberflus and QB Caleb Williams scratched their heads, puzzled by the outcomes. The week 10 matchup against the Patriots proved to be the final nail in the coffin, as the team scored only 3 points. And they made their decision. There’s hope for a better future.

OC Shane Waldron was fired, and Thomas Brown was brought in. Bears insider Kevin Fishbain appeared on the November 16 episode of The Rich Eisen Show, where he gave many sneak peeks into the coaching change at the Bears. According to him, “Thomas Brown needs to create advantageous sports for Caleb Williams. I feel like for Brown, it’s simplify things and go back to that point of emphasis.” But what’s that?

HC Eberflus asserted in the earlier off-season that the rookie needs to pass the ball. But that has been a problem. WRs like DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and D’Andre Swift had been wanting for the ball, but either they were covered or the QB got intercepted because of no protection. That’s the main task of the new OC. By motion or change in positions, he needs to have them placed where the QB can pass the pigskin to them.

Brown comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree as he was hired by the Rams and Panthers in his earlier coaching assignments. However, he needs to perform to secure his job. Waldron was also from the same coaching tree but was fired just 9 months later.

One of the main tasks at hand is building their rookie QB. The Bears need to make instant changes in their O-line.

Caleb Williams’ confidence has taken a hit

I got to believe it’s as low as it may have been in his football career as it is right now; that’s the goal for Thomas Brown,” added Fishbain while talking about the rookie. And he might be right. In the off-season, 2024’s No. 1 draft pick was being touted as one of the best rookies to play, being the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner. But now, he’s struggling to pass the ball, let alone win games, and it has affected him.

It wasn’t his fault. The Bears’ poor planning and bad management of their receivers have made matters worse. Caleb Williams has been doing everything he can as the insider called him ‘smart’ and pointed out, “He’s doing a lot of things at the line that other rookie quarterbacks don’t do and can’t do.

However, there’s a hard truth that everyone knows. Winning matters! There’s nothing more precious than a win. And that is what has eluded them. They have lost the last three games and will play against the Packers on November 17. Can they turn their fortunes? We’ll find out soon.
