‘Guess who’s back? Back again!’ None other than Teddy Bridgewater, the high school state champ turned NFL veteran. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network broke the news, reporting that Bridgewater is coming out of retirement and is “expected” to sign with the Lions. But this is not it as far as Detroit is concerned, as another insider confirms Ben Johnson talks.
“I think Ben Johnson has an interest in the Chicago Bears job. I’m sure they’re gonna request to interview him and I’m sure that he’s gonna talk to them,” Adam Schefter reported it on the Pat McAfee Show.

Johnson has absolutely revved up that Lions offense. Jared Goff has been playing like a Pro Bowler under his guidance. They’ve got a potent offense, and Johnson has been a major factor in their success (9-8 in ’22, 12-5 in ’23, 13-2 in ’24). The Bears, on the other hand, have been a bit of a disappointment this year.
Despite having a young superstar like Caleb Williams at QB and a receiving corps that could give any team in the league a run for their money with guys like D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen, they’ve been “stumbling” all season. So, you can see why the Bears might be interested in a coach who can unlock their potential.
Johnson has proven he can maximize talent, and the thought of him taking the reins in Chicago is definitely intriguing. This is gonna be a fascinating situation to watch unfold, especially considering Williams is there under center.

Can Ben Johnson bring truckloads of goodness for Chicago and Caleb Williams?
Imagine a young gunslinger like Caleb Williams, with his laser focus and rocket arm, unleashed in an offense designed to maximize his potential. That’s the future the Bears could be looking at with Ben Johnson as their head coach.
Johnson’s a proven offensive genius. In Detroit, he turned Jared Goff, a quarterback with question marks, into a legitimate MVP candidate. Goff threw for a career-high 4,827 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2023 under Johnson’s system. Imagine what he could do with a talent like Williams, who racked up 3,542 yards and 32 touchdowns in his rookie year despite a shaky offensive line in Chicago.
It’s not just about raw talent, though. Johnson is also a master developer. Goff’s resurgence is a prime example, but even Detroit’s running back, D’Andre Swift, flourished under Johnson’s guidance, averaging over 5 yards per carry last season. This is exactly what the Bears need for Williams: a coach who can unlock his potential and turn him into a true star.
Think about it: a young quarterback with a cannon arm, a coach with a knack for creative play-calling, and a dynamic receiving corps featuring D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen. That sounds like a recipe for offensive fireworks, the kind that could propel the Bears back into playoff contention. With Johnson at the helm, the future in Chicago could be very bright.
