The Kansas City Chiefs could part ways with the star cornerback L’Jarius. After a phenomenal fourth Super Bowl title for the Chiefs, a new destination might be on the cards for the 27-year-old. Reportedly, the Indianapolis Colts have been keen on acquiring the formidable Sneed. With the talent and skills he showcased on the gridiron, it is not unlikely to see teams wanting to acquire this trump card as the Chiefs decide to let go. However, as speculations soar high, Adam Schefter has doused the fire with his four-word reply.
On Pat McAfee’s show, the analyst and NFL insider came forth with a totally different opinion about what has been circulating around the NFL realm. His stance has put a full stop to any rumors surrounding Sneed’s new home for now. However, the possibility of things changing is always there as Schefter indicated.

L’Jarius Sneed has been one of the exceptional players on the Chiefs’ side. However, according to ATOZ SPORTS, there have been reports of negotiations between the Colts and Chiefs regarding the cornerback. Earlier this month, the Chiefs placed a nonexclusive franchise tag on the cornerback which allows him to talk to other teams and initiate a potential trade.
Many sources have claimed that the trade is inevitable and if Sneed plays on the franchise tag, he gets a fully guaranteed $19.8 million. This amount might be the reason other teams hesitate to commit to such a high-stakes exchange. Amidst these speculations, the most prominent information has been on the Colts and Titans being the potential destinations for Sneed, as pointed out by Pat McAfee.
However, contrary to swirling rumors, ESPN’s Adam Schefter put a halt to these rumors. According to him, the Chiefs and Colts “haven’t had any conversations” about a potential deal involving cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Separating fact from fiction regarding the Colts’ supposed interest in Sneed, Schefter reassured, “100% not happening.”

He further clarified on the show how things might change but for now, the deal isn’t in the air. “Chiefs have no problem right now going with him on that check. It is up to him and his agent to see if they can help broker a deal and structure something to get him a long-term security that he wants. But, no nothing right now has gotten done, the Colts and Chiefs have not discussed a deal for L’Jarius Sneed atleast till date,” remarked Schefter.
Expectedly, Sneed himself has expressed a strong desire to remain with the Chiefs, aiming for more Super Bowl glory. “Two is legendary, but three? You never get tired of getting rings,” Sneed articulated his aspirations. “Hopefully I’m with the Chiefs. Hopefully, I’m still here and we can go back and repeat.” For now, though, it remains to be seen how things will unfold if the Titans or the Colts decide to take in the cornerback
The value Sneed adds to the Colts or the Titans
The Colts bolster their defense with a standout performer from the 2023 season. Sneed, with his two regular-season interceptions and formidable coverage skills, has made quite an impression. Notably, his defensive prowess shone brightly in the playoffs with 17 tackles. Both the Titans and Colts showed middling performances in passing yards in the 2023 season. With stars like Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Stroud in their division, securing a player of Sneed’s caliber could prove to be a game-changer.

On the L’Jarius Sneed front, I’m told the main sticking point has been Sneed’s asking price.
The Colts and Titans are two of the top teams trying to execute a trade, but Sneed’s price is too high, per source.
For now, Sneed remains in KC on $19.8M tag.

However, acquiring Sneed won’t come cheap. His current stance on seeking a substantial salary hike is clear, signaling a hefty investment for any team that takes him on. The Titans, with a more comfortable salary cap space of $54.2 million according to Over The Cap, appear better positioned to accommodate such demands. The Colts, though slightly more constrained with $22.6 million, still possess the means to make a competitive offer.

The ultimate question remains whether either team deems the investment in Sneed justified. Should they decide otherwise, Sneed might very well don his Chiefs jersey once more, contributing to their historic quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl victory.
