Seems like the 2024 NFL season is full of injuries! The season is turning into a real nail-biter, but not for the reasons we hoped. Almost all the teams have at least one injured player that could greatly impact the season. While players often enjoy playing football, it can be cruel and unforgiving sometimes. Time and time again, we are seeing impact players going down, and it’s starting to feel like a season full of “what ifs.” And the worst part? With truckloads of NFL injury updates coming week after week, there are speculations that some players might not be able to make a comeback, at least this season!
We all were so excited to see Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy perform in his first NFL season. The Vikings were expecting the rookie to bring out the best in the team, especially Justin Jefferson, but destiny had other plans. Just when McCarthy started to become the real deal, the news came out of his knee injury on Tuesday. And not just any injury, a torn meniscus. It hurts, right? The rookie was looking sharp and had an impressive preseason debut on Saturday, with two touchdowns, one interception, and a 188-yard throw.
Spoiler alert? Well, Deepak Chona, injury analyst and surgeon recently gave NFL injury updates on several players, including JJ. He mentioned in his recent tweet that if they trim the meniscus, McCarthy will recover in 4-6 weeks. And the good news? In this case, the player will come back stronger. But, if they opt for a full repair, he is likely out for the season. Now everything depends on the surgeons, as they will decide mid-operation, relying on what they find. It’s a tough call that could make or break his debut season. Now, fans are just wondering if they will see him under center or on the sidelines!

The next player who is in the headlines for his injury is Marquise Brown. Things took an unexpected turn when the Kansas City Chiefs WR ended up in the hospital after injuring his shoulder on his first catch of the preseason. Ouch! However, there is good news. HC Andy Reid gave a sigh of relief to all the Chiefs Fans, by revealing Brown doesn’t need surgery. But, there’s a chance he could still be out when the 2024 NFL season starts.
Deepak Chona, took to his Twitter account to give an injury update of the NFL player. He analyzed the whole situation and wrote, “Chiefs Marquise Hollywood Brown – Confirmed 4-6 wk timeline. Data suggests Wk 2 return = most likely. Rapid return to pre-injury production projected.” The analyst predicts that there are high chance of Brown returning to the field in Week 2. Moreover, he is projected to have a full recovery within 4-6 weeks.

It’s already August 14, and we have not heard really great news about the recovery of several talented players. Some such talented players are Jahmyr Gibbs, Puka Nacua, and Joey Bosa. With injuries and setbacks testing their limits, will these players make a comeback better than ever?
According to ESPN, Detroit Lions Jahmyr Gibbs sustained a hamstring injury during practice on Monday. The player went through positional drills with the receivers and running backs but little did he know, the practice would become a tough row to hoe. Thankfully, head coach Dan Campbell reassured fans, saying, “I think we’re gonna be fine here.” According to Deepak Chona, Gibbs will be fine within 2-3 weeks. He also suggested that the data favors 90% chances of the RB playing during Week 1. But with great responsibilities comes great injuries and thus, there are 25% chance of the player getting re-injured. We are not completely sure if everything is fine and whether Gibbs will play this year.
Another player who injured his knee while joint practice is Puka Nacua. The Los Angeles Rams Wide Receiver is now week-to-week in the preseason. But, the Head Coach has good news! Sean McVay confirmed that there is no structural damage—just a burst bursa sac. These fluid-filled sacs usually protect tendons from rubbing against bones, so it’s not as serious as it sounds. However, Deepak’s today’s tweet might increase tensions among the Rams fans. The analyst tweeted, “Low concern. Likely has more than just bursa given “week-to-week” label.,” indicating Nacua might not hit the gridiron this season!

That’s not all. We have an NFL injury update for one more player and it might be a bit surprising! We all know how Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers recently faced a potential injury during a joint practice with the Rams. Reportedly, it affected his left hand or wrist. Feel the burn! While initial predictions suggest he may recover quickly, there remains uncertainty about how this injury will affect his availability at the start of the season. However, Deepak has some positive news for us. His tweet read, “Limited info but cautious optimism. Most hand/wrist don’t cause missed time 4 wks out (Wk 1),” indicating we might soon see him in the field. Bosa was all set for a strong comeback this year, but let’s see how things turn out for him after the injury.
These were some of the NFL injury updates that might play an important role in the NFL 2024 season. So, buckle up, because this season’s ride is a lot bumpier with the injuries and uncertainties!
