After signing up with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, Chris Jones has gone on to become one of the vital parts of the team, and as they head for the historic Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium, he will lead the defensive end. While he will give it all for the Super Bowl ring, the 29-year-old will have some bonus money at stake as well.

Jones has a bonus clause in his Chiefs’ contract that gives him a staggering $2 million bonus if he wins the Super Bowl and Defensive Player of the Year award. But he has missed out on the DPOY. Can he still cash out the bonus?

Chris Jones’s 2023 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs had a base value of $19.5m, while the incentives amounted to $6.75m. The biggest incentive was $2 million for winning the Super Bowl and DPOY. However, Jones lost to Myles Garret in the race. And as it stands, he will not be winning the $2 million bonus even if he wins Sunday’s Super Bowl clash against the 49ers. The clause needs him to have both prizes. But he will still not go home cashless.

Jones will still earn a $1 million bonus for appearing in the Super Bowl as a first-team All-Pro. The 29-year-old was named in the All-Pro last month, and now that the Chiefs are all set to take on the 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII, his season earnings will touch 24 million with incentives combining for a total of 4.25 million. Jones had $6.75m in incentives and despite missing the $2m of DOPY SB win, he will nonetheless be happy with the earned amount and the 10 sacks.

Jones records 10th Sack to earn 1.25m

Last month in the AFC game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Chris Jones picked up the 10th sack of the 2023 season in the third quarter to win the $1.25m bonus. He needed 10 sacks a season to claim the bonus, and so he turned his 9 1/2 to 10 against the Chargers. Chiefs eventually won the game with a score of 13-12 but even before that, celebrations arose in the defensive end.

Jones dropped Easton Stick for an 11-yard loss and ran to the sideline in sheer exuberance. Chiefs’ players seemed to know about his bonus clause and swarmed all over him in celebrations. It’s been one of his best seasons, and if they win the Super Bowl, it could potentially be the best.
