As superstar QB Tom Brady retired before the beginning of the season, little was expected from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this term. But the acquisition of QB Baker Mayfield changed the game for them. And now ahead of their playoff tie against last year’s Super Bowl team, the Philadelphia Eagles, Mayfield stands a chance to pocket a $250,000 bonus if his side comes out on top at the Raymond James Stadium.

The incentives that Mayfield will earn on his one-year deal with the Bucs could double his 2023 earnings.

Bucs awarded Mayfield only a $4 million deal, further padded by several tiers of incentives. Now ahead of the playoff game against the Eagles, Mayfield stands a chance to earn $250k if he leads them to a win. According to Fox Sports’ NFC South reporter Greg Auman, “if he’s the guy for 85 percent of snaps – basically 14.5 games out of 17 – that’s an extra million, and $2 million if they make the playoffs. If he plays 75 percent in season and 75 percent in a playoff win, it’s another $250k per playoff win. Another potential million there.” But that’s not all.

This is in addition to all the other incentives he has racked up this season. The first category was for the game time that Mayfield had to fulfill was gamely time-related. He reached the fourth tier of that category with 100% snaps, which earned him a million dollars.

Auman further adds, “for stat incentives, if he finishes in the NFL top 10 or NFC top 5 in passer rating, pass TDs, pass yards, completion % or yards/pass, those are $300k each for a potential $1.5 million. In all, a potential $4.5 million to bring him to $8.5 million in total compensation.”

So Mayfield has already earned 50% of his contract just by incentives. He earned $500,000 for playing 66% of the team’s snaps, and $350,000 each for passing 75% and 85%. Those were doubled because of the Bucs’ playoff berth. He also earned $600,000 in incentives for passing yards and touchdowns.

And he can earn even more. The Bucs face off against The Eagles, with the reigning NFC champions not looking like their usual best.

The team from Philadelphia hasn’t been performing well as of late. After an impressive start to the season, The Eagles haven’t been exactly soaring. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games and could only get into the playoffs on the back of their spectacular opening weeks.

And with this run of form, the Bucs have an opportunity to secure a win in this NFC Wild Card as they look to capitalize on the Eagles’ late-season woes.
