For better or worse, several teams will be parting ways with their QBs. Whether it’s Kirk Cousins from the Vikings or Russell Wilson, who is anticipated to be cut from the Broncos, change is afoot. As the NFL Free Agency kicks off, these veterans will be looking for a new home. At the same time, several teams desperately need a QB’s help. Will the stars align and match the QBs to the best possible team?
So, which teams are looking to recruit the help of Cousins, Wilson, and Co?
1. New England Patriots

The Pats have faced turbulent times since the departure of Tom Brady. Mac Jones has seen a decline in performance following a promising rookie season. He is also reportedly facing discontent within the organization. Jones found himself benched on multiple occasions during the past year, with Bailey Zappe stepping in. Complicating matters, the Patriots parted ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick and now hold the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
But could they seek to hedge their bets by recruiting a veteran free-agent QB?
2. Las Vegas Raiders
The NFL squad had parted ways with longtime starter Derek Carr last offseason. After him, Garoppolo took over and was soon dismissed. In his place, fourth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell took over for the final eight games. He showed promise but ultimately resembled more of an above-average backup rather than a transformative franchise talent.
Nevertheless, under the leadership of respected HC Antonio Pierce, the Raiders could find themselves potentially just a QB away from making significant strides in the AFC West next season.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have faced challenges in finding a suitable successor to fill the void left by the retirement of NFL player Ben Roethlisberger. Kenny Pickett, although displaying occasional glimpses of potential, has largely struggled to solidify his role in the Steel City.
Despite HC Mike Tomlin’s assertion that Pickett remains the team’s starter, there is a firm determination within the organization to introduce competition for the former first-round pick. It won’t come as a surprise if the Steelers opt for a fresh face at quarterback for the upcoming 2024 season.
4. Atlanta Falcons
For Falcons fans, witnessing Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke struggle to lead an offense brimming with playmakers was frustrating. Many attribute this frustration not only to the QBs but also to the coaching decisions under former HC Arthur Smith. Atlanta may be looking to sign the QBs up for grabs during free agency.
5. Commanders
With the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Commanders are widely expected to address their QB situation. Sam Howell’s inconsistent performance in his first year as a starter has raised concerns. As USC’s Caleb Williams is predicted to go first overall, many mock drafts have projected UNC’s Drake Maye as the potential new face of the NFL franchise.

Or they may sign one of the free-agency QBs just to act as backup for the rookie QB.
6. Minnesota Vikings
Avoidable mistakes and unfortunate injuries marred the Vikings’ season. But the highlight was the loss of Kirk Cousins. The team has yet to achieve significant success with Cousins at the helm. Additionally, Cousins is approaching 36 years and is recovering from a significant Achilles tendon injury.
