Is Roquan Smith's aggressive play a necessary evil, or should the NFL crack down harder?

For a while now, Lamar Jackson and company have been riding the unstoppable train. The team is on a 7-game win streak, however, problems for them did not stop. According to the NFL, some Ravens players are playing a little too harshly. You might have realized that here the player in question is LB Roquan Smith. There is nothing much wrong with his game and he has simply been a little too harsh.

The man seriously hurt Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin as a result of his roughness. It occurred during week seven, and as a result of the overly aggressive tackle, the WR’s ankle was dislocated. The injury he suffered was too severe, which prompted the NFL officials to become involved. The case for this tackle is now closed, and Lamar Jackson’s LB was found guilty. Due to this, Smith is being fined $16,883 as it is being deemed that he was at fault for a botched tackle.

In addition to being a severe disciplinary measure, is also a way for the NFL to set an example for others. Although American football is supposed to be rough, it’s not to the point where a player is hurt because of someone else’s negligence. While this was a personal fine for the LB, it was also a clear indirect warning for the whole team too. Lamar Jackson would need to calm down a couple of people from the locker room.

He stated in an interview, “When I’m playing, I am not wearing any jewelry. I don’t need anything popping. Something grabbing my neck or something. Something gets lost, you’re gonna have to take a timeout. Ref, coach, whoever, like, I need my jewelry.”

This simply goes to show that being among the best requires giving up some of your favorite things. And the way Lamar Jackson accomplishes this is by not wearing something he really loves. However, that love does not matter when it comes to the football game.
