The anticipation surrounding the Washington Commanders’ choice with the No. 2 pick in the imminent NFL Draft has become a national fascination. As Caleb Williams is widely anticipated to be the Chicago Bears pick at No. 1, the intrigue deepens regarding whom the Commanders will select. The spotlight is on a trio of quarterback talents: North Carolina’s Drake Maye, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, each heralded as the next generation of NFL quarterbacks. This leaves the Commanders in an enviable position, poised to select from this distinguished collection of athletes.

In the latest episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast, Cowherd revealed that according to his sources, Daniels is all set to make his NFL debut in Washington. And it’s not just him. Another NFL Insider also feels that he is destined to be a Commander.

While speaking about the Draft prospects, Cowherd told his guest 3 & Out host John Middlekauff, that he knew who the Commanders’ pick would be. “I asked two executives in the league. They said their feeling was Caleb one, Jaden Daniels, two.”

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also echoed Cowherd’s prediction. While appearing on SportsCenter on Friday, he said, “I was told that Washington does plan to meet with Daniels at some point. The feeling strongly around the league is that he’s the No. 2 quarterback and that he would likely go second or third.”

In his final season at LSU, Daniels claimed incredible statistics: 3,812 passing yards and 40 passing touchdowns, as well as 1,134 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Maybe once taken under head coach Dan Quinn’s wings, he could revive a fallen franchise. Cowherd said that Drake Maye was also an interesting option, but his last year was poor and that might mean he’ll get picked third.

Drake Maye the next Jordan Love?

One narrative that has captured the attention of many is the comparison between the North Carolina QB and the Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love. Moments of brilliance and bouts of inconsistency marked Maye’s journey. “Drake Maye’s inconsistency scares them. But if you go back a year to a year. It’s a lot like Jordan Love. There’s a lot to like,” Orlovsky said.

Love also showcased considerable potential in his earlier college seasons, leaving scouts and analysts poring over his “Junior tape” and “Sophomore tape,” trying to reconcile the flashes of excellence with periods of underwhelming play.

Dan Orlovsky went even so far as to suggest that he should get the Jordan Love treatment. “But his mechanics are still raw. You can’t play him early.” So, the antidote? “I think Drake Maye has to get the Jordan Love treatment and sit a year or two. I think if you can sit him for at least a year you got a chance to have a really good player.”
