The moment Mike Vrabel walked through the doors of Foxboro. One of the Patriots’ highest-ranking executives who served at the club for 18 seasons resigned. At that time, it looked like a normal change of personnel that usually comes when a new head coach arrives. A new culture and a new staff to kickstart a new era. However, we never actually got the details on why someone who was so closely associated with the Kraft family suddenly left. Well, now we may actually have the answer, thanks to Boston Herald reporter, Doug Kyed.

His report on former executive vice president of football business Robyn Glaser might actually tarnish her legacy in Foxboro. See Glaser was always in charge of handling football department budgets, expenditures, capital expenses, and more. However, once Jerod Mayo was named the head coach—with the Bill Belichick era coming to an end—Glaser found herself promoted to a senior advisor role to Mayo. This might have resulted in her gaining more control over the franchise behind the scenes. Like Kyed reported, Glaser continued to cut costs around the organization without having a full understanding of the situation.

However, one thing that stood out the most was her trying to do things that were opposite to what Belichick used to do. It’s like she didn’t want the Patriots to cling on to what Belichick had done for almost 2 decades. But her days were numbered as soon as the Patriots hired Vrabel. It meant they were again returning to a coach-centric power structure. Once that happened, Glaser was removed from her duties. Astonishingly, she didn’t just leave the Patriots, she left the league as a whole.

Can you really blame the Pats for kind of sacking Glaser? Yes, she had a significant role to play since the days of Spygate. But in New England, you always have to work behind or beside the head coach. You can’t just call shots on your own. And once you do. You will meet the fate of Glaser. No matter how big of an executive you were. No one is above the coach in Foxboro. Well, speaking about the head coach. It looks like Vrabel is already planning some huge things to start this rebuild.

Mike Vrabel is predicted to be a bit busy this offseason

Let’s clear out one thing first: The New England Patriots have more than $130M in salary space. None of the other franchises have this much space to spend money and build a proper roster. However, the question is how will the Patriots actually use this power. Because you know that quote from the Marvel Universe: With great power comes great responsibility. So, how well the Patriots use $130M will determine their 2025 season. But Vrabel has made one thing clear at the Combine. “What the roster looks like today is going to be vastly different than what it looks like at the end of August.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Mike Vrabel the savior the Patriots need, or just another coach in a long line?

Have an interesting take?

This could only mean Vrabel is not wasting any time building a roster capable of being challenging at the top. Because in the last two seasons, this roster clearly showed that it was not good enough. Back to back 4-13 finishes isn’t something you associate with a franchise of the Patriots caliber. Hell, they are meant to be fighting for Lombardi’s instead of drowning in the trenches of their division. However, it won’t be easy at all. Patriots actively pursued Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, but that didn’t get them anywhere. They also tried targeting Chiefs guard Trey Smith. However, he ended up getting franchise tagged.

Then, more setbacks followed, when the Rams re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson. And now just when the Pats are aggressively pursuing Ravens LT Ronnie Stanley. Suddenly, the Ravens are optimistic in keeping him on board. So, even with this high salary cap, the Patriots are constantly missing out on quality players. Like this shows money can’t really buy you everything. In this case, money isn’t enough for the Patriots to draw a route closer to next year’s Super Bowl. Until they get a few difference makers on the roster. This rebuild won’t gather pace like the Patriots are hoping for.
