If you’re just waking up and sipping your morning coffee, here’s something fresh to start your day: The NFL is on the move again. From tweaks to the tush push to kickoff rules and first-down changes, this offseason’s been buzzing. And guess what? The updates just keep coming. Before we dive into what’s changing now, here’s a quick one you’ll want to note: the NFL has officially released the dates for this year’s offseason workout programs for Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and the rest of the 30 teams.
The NFL’s offseason workout program is split into three phases over nine weeks. It’s all voluntary and focuses on training, learning, and getting players, even favorites like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and others, back in shape. So, how does it all go about?
Well, Phase One is the first two weeks. It’s mostly just meetings, workouts, and rehab – no football yet. Then comes Phase Two, which lasts three weeks. In this tenure, players hit the field for drills, but no offense vs. defense. It’s all at a walk-through pace.

At last, Phase Three goes on for four weeks. This is when OTAs (organized team practice activity) happen, with teams allowed to conduct them for up to 10 days each. No live contact is permitted, but full 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed. Besides this, there’s also a mandatory minicamp during Phase Three for veterans. Teams with new head coaches get an extra voluntary minicamp before the draft.
Even rookies have their own seven-week development program, starting May 12. They’ll also get a post-draft minicamp, usually on one of the two weekends after the draft. However, the dates for each team’s program will vary and can still change. But for now, the list is as follows:

These are the major offseason workout updates! Besides this, remember we stated above that Roger Goodell’s NFL has also changed quite a few things this offseason?
What are the changes for Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and others in 2025?
Well, let’s start with overtime – a major change. Whenever we hear this word, we are automatically reminded of what happened in the 2024 Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs won the Lombardi by making the first touchdown in overtime. That was facilitated by Kyle Shanahan‘s side choosing to take possession first and only managing a field goal. That allowed Andy Reid‘s squad to win it with a touchdown on the second possession.
There was a lot of debate over the 49ers‘ choice to go first, with many opining that choice suited the old NFL OT rules. The new set of rules mandates that both sides get possession at least once in OT for playoff games, giving the second side clarity on exactly what they need to stay alive or win the contest. Now, things are going to change similarly for the regular season as well.

As per Tuesday’s meeting, overtime rules for regular-season games are about to change. Just like in the playoffs, now both teams will get the ball at least once in overtime. No more games ending on the first touchdown. So, it is still 10 minutes long, but now it feels more fair, doesn’t it?
Next, the second major change – replay assist is getting sharper. It’ll now help with clear, objective parts of penalties that were already called. It’s a small tweak, but could make a big difference in close games. That’s a much-needed upgrade! Another shift is regarding kickoff touchbacks. Instead of placing the ball at the 30, it’ll now go to the 35-yard line. Why? The league wants more kick returns in the game.

But the most talked-about topic was still the tush push. The Packers want to ban it – At least the version where the QB gets the snap and a teammate instantly pushes him forward. However, not everyone’s on board for this. Colts GM Chris Ballard and coach Shane Steichen, for example, are standing by the play. The Seahawks don’t seem keen on seeing the tush push banned either. The vote is reportedly stuck at 16-16 for and against for now, with 24 votes needed to implement a ban. So, this one’s not done yet, and all eyes are on it!
