The end of an era might just be around the corner as one of the longest-serving coaches in the history of the NFL’s future hangs in balance. With the New England Patriots once again missing out on the playoffs. HC Bill Belichick could be gone at the end of this season. But will he be replaced by one of his own?
It will be a true passing of the torch moment at the Patriots if Mike Vrabel takes on the head coaching job. Robert Kraft, the owner and Belichick have remained tight-lipped regarding the upcoming changes throughout the season. But with only one game left to go, the possibility of Belichick not being the HC next year is heightened.
Can Vrabel fill the Bill Belichick void?

The 71-year-old Belichick has been the shot-caller of the Patriots since 2000. In that time, he has won Super Bowl on 6 different occasions and been named ‘Coach of the Year’ thrice. However, the last few years have not been kind to him, and Mike Vrabel, head coach for the Tennessee Titans, has fresh legs, which can be employed at the Patriots.

Vrabel has been the HC for the Titans since 2018, but his contract is set to expire this summer. The connection between 48-year-old Vrabel and the Patriots is unfettered. And as rumors fly in the Titans camp, Vrabel could leave for greener pastures.

Several reports have indicated that the Titans and Vrabel could mutually put an end to their relationship. And with the sword hanging over Belichick, could Vrabel’s past glories with the Patriots be enough to bring him on board?
Mike Vrabel’s history with Belichick and the Patriots
Vrabel was traded to the Patriots from the Steelers in 2001. As the trusted linebacker, Vrabel went on to win Super Bowl three times. Though he will not be considered a part of Belichick’s coaching tree, Vrabel certainly learned a lot in his 9 seasons with the master. And can employ those tactics for the betterment of his ex-team.

Though this season’s performance by the Titans might not inspire faith, for the past 4 seasons Vrabel has gone on to win the AFC North division twice. The Pro Bowler does not lack coaching skills, but this jump to the big ship of the Patriots, to fill the shoes of Belichick, could overwhelm anyone.
