Exciting update for the Titans! They were on the lookout for a new offensive coordinator last week, and guess what? They’ve got one now! The Titans initially said that they wouldn’t have a dedicated play-caller. But it seems they have realized things would not be so easy. The team needs someone to provide input and help with game planning.

HC Brian Callahan plans to bring the collaborative approach the Bengals used during his time there. For that, he needed a new OC. And the string of interviews has finally ended today.

The Tennessee Titans are shaking things up in the coaching department! NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that they’ve snagged Jaguars’ passing-game coordinator Nick Holz as their new OC. Holz was a top contender right from the start. However, he was competing against names like Eric Studesville and Thad Lewis.

Now, with Holz in the mix, the Titans have solidified key coaching positions. Over the past weeks, they had hired Dennard Wilson as DC, Bill Callahan as offensive line coach, and Tyke Tolbert as WR coach. These extensive changes aim to breathe new life into the franchise in the upcoming season.

Can Holz turn around the Titans’ fortunes?

Now, let’s talk history. Holz has some solid connections. Back in 2007, he was an offensive quality control coach at Nebraska when Bill Callahan, yeah, the new HC’s dad, was running the show. Small world, huh? They also teamed up under Jon Gruden in Oakland for one season. Holz has 11 seasons of NFL coaching under his belt, so he’s no amateur.

Here’s the twist, though. Holz has college-level play-calling experience. And his UNLV Rebels put up 24.0 points per game in 2022. But now Callahan is taking the reins on play-calling. It looks like Holz could be gearing up for a repeat of the successful Raiders, where he had worked with Callahan in 2018. It was painful to watch as they could not even make it to the playoffs. But with these sweeping changes, fans can hopefully look forward to a brighter 2024.
