Wednesday brought surprises for the team. And not in a good way. As the team entered the offseason, news broke that three coaching staff had been sacked. Who were those three? @JosinaAnderson revealed the names on X. Offensive co-ordinator Alex Van Pelt, running backs coach Stump Mitchell, and tight ends coach TC McCartney. These, unfortunately, would not be with the Browns as they prepare for the 2024 season.

We haven’t been told who would be replacing these staff members. But we do know one thing. Some of the players are not really happy with this turn of events. Who these players are, we don’t know exactly. However, did the team really need to pull this off? How had the three personnel’s track records been in the past?

Did the Browns make a wise move?

OC Van Pelt had actually joined the team in the same year Kevin Stefnaski became HC. That was four years ago. Since Stefanski was more inclined toward the offense, he made the major calls. Van Pelt had to shift his focus to other duties during his time with the Browns. Before joining Cleveland, he was the QB coach for Green Bay and Cincinnati.

RB coach Mitchell probably has the longest association with the Browns of the three. He joined the team in 2019. Prior to that, he had also played in the NFL for a decade. He jumped into coaching soon after that. And spent 20 years as an NFL assistant. McCartney had also joined the team in 2020, along with Van Pelt and Stefanski.

The big move comes as a surprise since they had done pretty well for themselves this year. They had to change QBs thrice this season and still came out with a winning record. That has happened since 2015! They finished the season 16th and 10th in terms of yards per game and points per game. Fans are hoping that the Browns management made a wise decision and that their bet will pay off.
