The Chicago Bears are in for a major shakeup! Or at least that is the word on the street. The Bears went 7-10 during the regular season. And they were right at the bottom of the NFC North. It’s not a fun place to be in. And the squad is planning to do something about it. Changes are underway both at the player level and at the coaching level.
As we know, the team fired its offensive coordinator way back on June 10, 2023. OC Luke Getsy, along with four other coaches, were unceremoniously shown the door. And now they are planning to woo an ex-Seattle Seahawks OC to fill in that role.

Could Shane Waldron be the team’s next OC? Well, it seems likely. And the deal is in its final stages. The Bears had embarked upon this task only a few weeks ago. They obviously could not make it to the postseason. And they must’ve thought their time was better utilized by filling in that gaping hole in their coaching schema.

But he isn’t the only candidate that the team has interviewed. There were eight others. However, he must’ve caught the Bears’ fancy more than the rest. The 44-year-old had spent the last 3 seasons in Seattle. You’d be surprised to know that he had also made a pit stop at the UFL and UMass before his Seattle stint. But then he realized his best shot was with the NFL.
But just a change in the OC won’t change the Bears’ fortunes. They need to make adjustments at the player level as well.
Can the Bears bag the top QB in the upcoming Draft?
Waldron can help make some pretty big changes in Chicago. Under him, the Seahawks’ offense ranked 21st and 17th in terms of yards per game and points per game. Can he upgrade the Bears’ offense to the same level as well? Besides, he has another role to play. Something that could make or break the team’s 2024 season.
Waldron, should the Bears finalize his deal, will land in Chicago at a crucial time. Come April and the squad will have to make key decisions. Among them, the chief will be to determine who will be their QB. And an OC will have to play a significant role in making that decision. Since they have the number 1 Draft pick, they have a lucrative option before them. Sign USC’s Caleb Williams.
