The NFL’s Black Monday isn’t just a day for head coaches to sweat—it’s a full-blown shake-up for teams looking to revamp their leadership. Take the Jets, for example, reportedly eyeing Super Bowl-winning OC Matt Nagy for their head coaching spot. Meanwhile, Lions OC Ben Johnson is already sprucing up his resume, ready to snag a top job himself. It’s a high-stakes game of musical chairs, and everyone’s hustling to land in the perfect spot before the music stops.

So, it’s a two-way thing, the NFL Black Monday. Let’s talk about the big fish here. Not long ago, Johnson cleared his intention to be an NFL HC at some time. However, the OC is coming with his own agenda, as he does not want to take interviews with every organization looking for an HC. And that every organization includes the Jets as well. But guess what? Johnson stated, “If the Jets had a better quarterback situation, there would be more interest.”

For one thing, the Jets’ QB’s future is uncertain; we all know that. But the question is, can a good offensive coordinator become a good head coach? Let’s rewind a year back to January 2024. Johnson stated that he was returning to the Lions even though being considered for a prime head coaching candidate by the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks.

Fast forward to now, and here we are again, in the same spot. But here’s the kicker: the Jets have no interest in Johnson. Talk about a hilarious twist. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Jets are not expected to put in a formal request for Johnson. Instead, the New York team is interested in the Lions‘ defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn, as well.

And not to forget that they also put in a request to interview Nagy as well. Well, if Nagy, who re-joined the Chiefs back in 2022, decides to part ways with Andy Reid and Co. it’ll be nothing short of a bitter loss for the head coach and the Chiefs. I mean, after returning to the Kansas City team, Nagy helped his team to win two consecutive Super Bowl titles, and no doubt he’s pretty much set his eyes for a hat-trick.

So, the battle of the offense and defense is not limited to the gridiron, huh? First, Nagy, and now Glenn. It seems like the Jets are looking to take off for the next season. But it’s not as simple as it seems. The NY team isn’t the only one behind the OC and DC of the Detroit team.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Ben Johnson's reluctance to join the Jets a sign of deeper issues within the team?

Alright, the Bears have fired Matt Eberflus, thanks to his prolonged losing streak and poor late-game decision-making. And that includes not calling timeouts in critical situations. But let bygones be bygones as we’re on the NFL Black Monday. And sure, everyone had expected the Chicago team looking to update their coaching staff.

As things stand, the Bears have requested Johnson, Glenn, along with the Miami Dolphins‘ defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver, for an interview. Seems like Johnson and Glenn are the top choices for the teams here. However, the Weaver is making louder noise for a potential candidate for the vacant head coach post in the Bears locker room. And that’s not it. Weaver is regarded as one of the top young coaches to watch in the forthcoming NFL hiring cycle.

Guess the DC for the Dolphins is coming with a strong resume against his name. But isn’t that sound a bit off for the Bears? I mean, taking a defensive coordinator as a head coach. Check out the Bears book for this season, and you’ll find it’s the offense where the team is lacking, and yet Weaver seems to have an upper hand for the HC. But considering all things here, Ben Johnson can be a first priority for the Bears. I mean, the fans might prefer him over Weaver.
