Feels like a new era has finally started for the New York Jets. Well, one can hope. Aaron Glenn is at the wheel as the new Head Coach, while 39-year-old Darren Mougey is the new General Manager. Fans are no doubt praying this is the new dawn, the start of something good after the last decade of disastrous seasons. However, many fans have been skeptical about the Jets making a defensive coordinator as the HC.

Questions have also been raised about Aaron Glenn’s inexperience on the job. Either way, the Jets have made their decision and their HC has already sent out the message of how he will do things. Glenn, who was a defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions for 3 years, was asked if he would call the defense at Jets. The new Jets HC’s answer was simple: “I won’t call the defense.” Continuing, Glenn explained how he wants to do the job: “I want to be the best Head Coach you can find, & in order for me to do that, I need to manage the game, so I will have an OC & DC, & those guys will be calling the play.”

Glenn made a name for himself while being the DC For the Detroit Lions. Following the 2023 campaign, an NFLPA survey saw him being voted the top defensive coordinator. Glenn really made a name for himself in the 2024 season, with the Lions’ defense holding strong despite some challenges. They only allowed an average of 20.8 points per game, which put them 9th in the league, and came up with 16 interceptions along the way. Their run defense was solid, too, letting up 1,552 rushing yards for the season.

With such numbers backing Glenn, one can expect him to overlap with the actual DC for tactics and play-calls. But no, Glenn, being a professional, has removed himself from such a conflict. He wants to be head coach and the best one at it.

As for the staff, the Jets HC said he is looking to bring in the right coaches as they are the starting point of the culture of the dressing room. One important thing he mentioned in relation to the coach hunt is that more than coachable, he is looking for personnel who will be compatible with the project that he envisions.

There you go. Aaron Glenn has laid his cards out on the table. Culture and compatibility – that’s his focus. He looks ready to take the job head-on. But let’s see how it goes as the season progresses. The Jets have a barrage of problems that need addressing, and he still has the Aaron Rodgers situation to deal with.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Glenn's decision to not call the defense a bold move or a risky gamble?

Aaron Glenn is in no hurry to come to the right resolution about Aaron Rodgers

No one can call right now which way Aaron Rodgers’ career will go in the 2025-26 season. His Jets spell hasn’t taken off. He is 41 years old. Questions are there if he will be able to adapt to the new project. Maybe he stays with the Jets. Maybe the Jets will trade him. Or he might just hang up his boots and call an end to an illustrious career. As far as the new Jets HC is concerned, he is not rushing into such a delicate question.

For Aaron Glenn, the Rodgers situation is the same as any other player problem in the squad: “I will tell you now that is going to be the answer to a number of questions when it comes to the roster in general.” For the new HC, coming to the right solution regarding Rodgers or any other problem in the team is of priority, and for that, they will take as long as it takes: “We are not going to rush to this answer because we are going to the right answer.”
