It’s the end of an era in Denver! The Broncos decided to part ways with Russell Wilson, allowing the once-celebrated Super Bowl champ to scout out new horizons. While Wilson hasn’t officially hit the free agent market, he’s already sizing up his next move.

Once, the thought of Russell Wilson taking snaps for the New York Giants was nothing more than a mix of wishful thinking and speculative banter by fans. Yet here we are, wondering if this long-shot fantasy might just take a turn towards reality. Could the Giants be Wilson’s next home?

All the buzz in the media was Wilson might join the Steelers. After all, there were reports that he would be meeting with them today. But NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that he stopped by in New Jersey before his Pittsburgh trip. The reason? He was there for “an exploratory meeting” with the Giants.

The Giants are sitting on a hefty $41 million in cap space, even with Daniel Jones in the second year of his jaw-dropping $160 million contract inked back in March 2023. It’s clear they’re in the market for another quarterback, especially after Jones hit a rough patch and then had his 2023 season cut short by a torn ACL in Week 9. However, with Jones steering the ship and the Giants hunkering down for a rebuild with fresh coaching minds, it’s a bit of a puzzle how Wilson would fit into their grand scheme.

Given where the Giants are at and what Wilson’s gunning for – a Super Bowl – Pittsburgh seems to have the upper hand in luring him in.

The Steelers seem to be closer to snagging Russell Wilson. Gerry Dulac from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the feeling’s mutual between both camps. Looks like the Steelers might be in the market for a marquee quarterback after all. Despite earlier chatter that they weren’t too keen on finding a seasoned vet to take over from Kenny Pickett.

The team had given its word about stirring up some competition for Pickett, their top pick from 2022. Coach Mike Tomlin, in particular, has been vocal in his support for Pickett, hinting that he’s due for another go as the lead man. But here’s where it gets interesting with Wilson. He could be a catch at a bargain price. Thanks to a hefty payout from Denver as part of his 2022 deal with the Broncos, Wilson might be open to joining a new squad for peanuts.

However, the Steelers have made it clear that Wilson’s not expected to step in as the starter. Instead, he’d be backing up Pickett. For now, the Steelers look like the best guess at where Wilson might end up. Bringing Wilson on board would serve a dual purpose: he’d be both a seasoned guide and a solid Plan B should Pickett be sidelined or injured. So, could the Steelers be his final destination?
