Aaron Glenn doesn’t believe in half-measures. The moment he stepped into the New York Jets’ headquarters, the tone shifted. No more excuses. No more empty promises. It wasn’t about selling dreams to a fanbase that had suffered enough—it was about delivering results. That’s what ex-teammate, former Jets WR Keyshawn Johnson, meant when he called Glenn the “culture change” that they need. The new head coach wasn’t here to make friends. He was here to win.

But fixing the Jets? That’s a job even seasoned mechanics might hesitate to take on. The offensive line needs rebuilding. The quarterback room is a mess. And then there’s the biggest question mark of them all—Davante Adams. The superstar wide receiver was supposed to be Aaron Rodgers’ secret weapon, the missing piece to take the Jets over the hump. Instead, the team collapsed to a 5-12 record under the weight of injuries, bad decisions, and a media circus. Now, with Rodgers gone for good, the rumors surrounding Adams are reaching a fever pitch.

If Glenn has made one thing clear, it’s this: no one is untouchable. He is the man responsible for creating a Super Bowl winning roster. That’s what he set upon to do. No more friendships! No more casual gameplay! He is all about winning and excelling at everything they need to do to change the course of history. In that pursuit, here’s the latest point to consider.

According to Spotrac, any team trading for Adams will inherit a 2-year, $72.5 million non-guaranteed contract. It includes $36.25 million each in 2025 and 2026. But the Jets would have to bear a $8.36 million cap number while saving $29.9 million. The receiver signed a 5-year $141.25 million deal with the Raiders in 2022 before moving to New York in 2024.

Davante Adams carries a $38.2 million cap number in 2025. It would increase to $38.4 million in 2026. Aaron Glenn is in no mood to keep him in the building. If no team bids for him, then they can also release him. NFL insider Ian Rapoport claimed that the Jets would free him up so that he could go to any team (with dear friend Aaron Rodgers, if he so wishes).

A-Rod had pressured the club into trading for the receiver. But in 11 games in the 2024 season, he could only rake up 67 receptions for 854 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. That wasn’t enough to take them anywhere close to the playoffs. Now they need to clear old baggage and go big. While the receiver situation could be dealt later, the HC has to sort the signal caller first. They need to find someone who could change the results and instill some confidence.

ESPN analyst predicts Aaron Glenn choice for quarterback

In 2023, two veterans of the league,

Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers, were looking for teams. Carr moved to the NO Saints, signing a 4-year $150 million contract. Rodgers came to the Jets, but his stint was fairly dismal, with a season-ending injury 4 snaps into 2023 and an early offseason in 2024.

This forced Aaron Glenn to look for other options. According to ESPN’s Seth Walder, the HC could try to poach Carr. He said, “In this scenario, the Jets pick Carr up off the Saints’ discard pile. Carr doesn’t have Goff’s upside, but he would raise the Jets’ floor. And as poorly as recent seasons have gone, New York has pieces to launch a quicker turnaround than one might think.

The Saints QB also had a rough season, battling with oblique injuries and a fractured hand. He played only 10 games, with a 5-5 win-loss record, completing 189 of 279 passes (67.7% completion rate) in 2,145 passing yards with 15 TDs and 5 interceptions. But there is a bigger issue. His contract includes a no-trade clause. That’s why the NO Saints can’t trade him until he wants to move. And he has refused to take a pay cut in his salary.
