Hold on to your helmets, folks—another twist is brewing in the NFL’s wildest of holdouts! Haason Reddick has gone AWOL since joining the Jets, and it looks like he’s not just playing for the love of the game anymore. He’s hunting for a long-term extension, which is why he jumped ship from Philly. Now, though, it’s a whole new ball game in New York.
Reddick has enlisted the help of agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. And it seems Rosenhaus wants his client to get out of this mess as soon as possible. He is gearing up to meet with the Jets’ officials before the Bills game, hoping to kickstart negotiations and put an end to this holdout drama.

At 30 years old, Reddick is the NFL’s last remaining holdout, which is kind of wild if you think about it. After being traded from the Eagles on March 29, things took a turn when his former agency, CAA, dropped him. But it really isn’t as straightforward as that statement sounds.
I mean, they were negotiating a new contract with the Jets. But, in comes Reddick, adamant on getting the deal done his way. And now, here he is. Still holding the fort. Just last week, Jets owner Woody Johnson even made a public plea, saying, “Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95, and come to the New York Jets. We can meet you and give you an escort right in the building!” That’s more than a stamp of approval. Come on, man. Try it.
Reddick’s 90 minutes away in Camden and has missed all team activities. But everything comes at a price. The cost of him missing the game? Almost, $9 million. $4.7 million in game checks and racking up another $5 million in fines. You’ve got to wonder: Was this move really worth it, for either of the parties? It was.

Haason Reddick spoiling his end-game
What’s your perspective on:
Is Haason Reddick justified in his holdout, or should he just play ball with the Jets?
Have an interesting take?
There is a reason why the Jets brought him on board with one year left on his contract, worth $14.25 million in non-guaranteed base pay. Haason Reddick might have become the drama sensation of the NFL this season. But his demands were never really outrageous.
Imagine getting an average of 50.5 sacks in the last four seasons. Yup! Consistently. Wouldn’t you want a hike in your salary? That’s where Haason stands at the current moment in his career. Instead, the Eagles decided to avoid it by trading him. And now, he’s stuck in a cat and mouse in New York.

But, no matter how much he wants it. Is it really worth it? As The Athletic’s Dianna Russini puts it: Reddick has the “mindset that he will die on this sword,” regarding his contract situation. Uh-Oh! It’s like he’s playing poker with his career, and it’s starting to hurt him more than anyone else.
Sure, with his Pro Bowl nods from the last two seasons, he’s shown he can bring the heat, racking up 16 sacks in 2022 and 11 last year. This guy is serious about his craft! The Jets could definitely use that kind of production on their defense. But even if he continues to sit out, the team might have enough talent to weather the storm. So, he needs to think, rethink, and act quickly. Let’s hope the new agents help him with that. If not, then we might be saying a pre goodbye to a serious baller.
