A significant 37% of Americans have declared football as their favorite to watch. In addition, the NFL further solidifies its dominance with an impressive average attendance of 67,591 per game, according to Statscore. But still, the debate has been on for – NFL vs NBA, which was recently brought into the limelight by LeBron James. However, now it seems, Christmas has brought a much clearer picture to this battle!

Netflix brought two NFL games on December 25. On the same day, the NBA had a Christmas party by bringing in 5 games for its viewers. And guess what? NFL matchups outshined the NBA battles.

Giving away the exact numbers, NFL reporter Ari Meirov posted “NFL and NBA viewership numbers for their Christmas games” on X. He mentioned that the Kansas City Chiefs vs Pittsburgh Steelers game on Netflix had a total viewership of 24.1 million, while the Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans on Netflix accumulated about 24.3 million viewers.

But when it came to NBA matches: Knicks-Spurs gained 4.9 million views; Celtics-76ers had 5.1 million views; Timberwolves-Mavs earned 4.3 million views; and Nuggets-Suns match was able to get only 3.8 million views. The Lakers-Warriors, where 7.7 million viewers flocked in earned the highest to watch the game.

So, you see, as Meirov mentioned, “Numbers weren’t relatively close” between the NFL and NBA viewership. Now this clearly tells that the football league is the current favorite of most Americans. And the major reason behind this surge could be the Netflix broadcast, which ultimately shattered many, including LeBron James’s perspective.

LeBron James miss the shot for NFL vs NBA?

LeBron James is one of the biggest names in the basketball world. He is renowned for his pinpoint accuracy in the games. But this time, his accurate thinking failed. After the Lakers’s Christmas game against the Warriors, James was interviewed on the sidelines. He was asked about what he thinks, who will dominate the holiday – the NFL or the NBA?

To which, the star power forward replied, “I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day.” Well, he was pretty confident about NBA games outshining the NFL matchups on December 25. But the stats spilled by Ari Meirov’s post made it clear that the NFL dominated Christmas this time. In fact, if we compare the total viewership of the NBA (25.8M) with the NFL (48.4M), still LeBron James’s sport lags behind with 22.6 million viewers.

Last year too, the NBA drew only 2.85 million viewers against the NFL’s 29 million. This time as well. It was the day for the Chiefs vs Steelers and the Ravens vs Texans.
