The NFL games are crucial! Not only for the players, coaches, teams, and the fans. It’s also critical for the games’ announcers. And this time, after Cris Collinsworth, NBC’s Mike Tirico is seen on the fans’ hit list!
It’s midnight! Well, this offbeat comment from Mike Tirico frustrated the listeners of the Cowboys vs Steelers game on Sunday. Although Tirico has a soft spot for the Eagles in the league as he has called over 20 Philly games, this time he was given the task of calling for the Pittsburgh vs Dallas game.
Now everything seems fine for the announcer as well as NBC. And it’s obvious after taking up the role from Al Michaels in 2022, Mike Tirico, who serves as the play-by-play announcer for Sunday Night Football, was expected to deliver some insights and good punches during the game. However, unexpectedly, it seemed his car got stuck right there at the time.

Yes! Tirico, who joined play-by-play, repeatedly told the listeners about the time. He kept on saying “after midnight” multiple times which irked many NFL fans. Surprisingly not only him, his co-worker Cris Collinsworth for color commentary too faced the hatred from the netizens. But why? Well, Collinsworth’s irrelevant insights and comparison took a huge toll on him.
Hence, he got some harsh backlash from the NFL fans’ community, just like this time Mike Tirico received!
Mike Tirico’s obsession with time didn’t impress his fans!
Imagine someone using just one word in almost every sentence. How would you feel? Frustrated? Or will feel something like it’s enough? Well, the same thing happened with the Sunday night game viewers. Fans who tuned in to experience the showdown between the Steelers and the Cowboys left fed up on Sunday at their homes. And this eventually led to frustration, which was also evident in a tweet by an X user, who said, “Italian-American Mike Tirico keeps mentioning it’s after midnight—we get it, you’re working late tonight. S–ck it up.” Well, the internet just had a field day making fun of him.

While doing so, one fan said, “Mike Tirico is one more “after midnight” away from me turning on the Spanish SAP.” This fan joked that Tirico’s call was so bad, that they might switch the language to Spanish, as it might be easier to hear, or at least hear the word ‘midnight’ in a different language. In addition to that, another frustrated viewer said, “Mike Tirico has mentioned it’s past midnight more times than points in this game.” That’s unfortunate that they waited for game points, as the game was already delayed by an hour and 25 minutes. The two teams finally managed to finish the game with a 20-17 score, with the Cowboys coming out on top.
Not only these! One comment really got a fan fired up, calling out how ridiculous it was to use certain phrases during a live call. They wrote, “Did Mike Tirico just say ‘For those just joining us’???? Who the hell is joining this terrible football game at 12:06 am??? You are here for the long haul or never jumping on board.” In fact other comments such as “It’s 12:10 am est and if you took a shot every time mike tirico said “it’s after midnight” you would already be dead” or “Mike Tirico is obsessed with telling you what time it is,” clearly tell how much the fans are ignited and frustrated with the announcer’s offbeat repetitive comments.
Nevertheless, at least Cowboys fans were happy with their team’s victory.
