New trade updates are surrounding the NFL team Washington Commanders and NBA side Philadelphia 76ers, both owned by a common name. The NFL franchise traded away its defensive duo on deadline day post losing to the Philadelphia Eagles. On the other hand, the NBA team has traded their superstar shooting guard to the LA Clippers.
The moves are the brainchild of Washington Commanders’ new owner Josh Harris. Harris has historically loved to blow up the rosters and went over the board to enter year-long restoration processes. His fearless approach is dubbed as ‘trust the process’ in the business. And the Commanders’ duo has not escaped the results of his aggressive transaction strategy.

Post the defeat against the Eagles, the Washington Commanders grabbed the opportunity to trade a few players. Maintaining their idea of making adjustments to the side, it was the defensive ends Chase Young and Montez Sweat who were traded during the last hours of October 31. The duo joined Harris’ surprise dismissal list that fuels his old idea of undertaking lengthy rebuilding, by any means.

The news was confirmed a day later. Sources informed that the franchise themselves played a key role in engineering the move for the two players. Young joined the NFC West side San Francisco 49ers whereas Sweat is now a part of NFC North’s Chicago Bears. However, with the NFL updates pouring in, eyes move on to the NBA side of trade due to the common owner between the Commanders and the 76ers.

NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, owned by Josh Harris as well, has not been overlooked either, as the franchise let go of James Harden despite a fine-looking season. The veteran shooting guard joined the LA Clippers along with two others in a lengthy trade deal, and the former received a 2026 1st round, a 2028 unprotected 1st round, two 2nd rounds, a 2029 pick swap, and an additional 1st rounder from a third team yet to be confirmed.
Eyes draw back to the NFL, as Chase Young joins his college senior and former teammate Nick Bosa at the 49ers, whereas Sweat isn’t so lucky as he lands in the middle of nowhere with the struggling Bears. How the decision to trade off both of the first-choice DEs will affect the Commanders is yet to be seen, but chances are it could backfire for the side.

Although Josh Harris’ past trades prove the effectiveness of his strategy, it’s nearly not the same this time. In an already struggling, the decision has already muddied the waters for Commanders. The outcome will only be evident at the end of the season, for now, they lock horns with the Patriots on Sunday, November 5.
