The Dallas Cowboys are one of those rare teams in sports whose owner, Jerry Jones, is more famous than the players themselves. He makes headlines for everything. The recent one was the ouster of the HC Mike McCarthy. Since then, the search for the head coach is on. On January 17, they announced their virtual interview with Kellen Moore was done. While the football world is eagerly waiting for their next move, some analysts are anxious.

National reporter Mike Florio appeared on the January 17 episode of the Dan Patrick Show. He warned Moore about Jerry Jones’ shenanigans and said, “When you go to Dallas, you have to accept the fact that Jerry’s the one who’s shopping for the groceries. Jerry’s going to do two radio spots a week that are going to make headlines during the season. He’s going to do a postgame media scrum that’s going to outshine your postgame press conference. You got to be ready to deal with that if you’re a head coach.” Everything that he said was right. And everyone knew it. Jerry Jones is an enigma.

However, Kellen Moore knows how things work at the Cowboys. Though he hasn’t been an NFL head coach ever, he was there for 4 years from 2019 to 2022. It goes in his favor, too. But he knows how Jerry Jones functions, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody after seeing him handle matters at the franchise.

The rumors of Deion Sanders becoming the head coach have faded out, as he only wants to coach his son, Shedeur Sanders. The Cowboys are readying up for interviews with former Jets coach Robert Saleh and Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier. However, things don’t look to change in Arlington.

Florio also had a subtle dig at the Cowboys owner, claiming, “A lot of these guys who want to be the head coach don’t want Jerry Jones to be the face and voice of the team.” Is that really the case? Is Jerry Jones ready to delegate his authority? It would be really exciting if he did that. But not only the coaching position is problematic, they need to look into the roster too.

While talking about the challenges at the Cowboys, Dan Patrick said, “No matter who takes the job you’ve got a 32-year-old injury-prone immobile quarterback who’s owed over $230 million guaranteed that’s not something I want to walk into.” That opens Pandora’s box of mistakes by Jerry Jones. He’s the one who handles the negotiations.

It was evident with WR CeeDee Lamb and QB Dak Prescott’s deals in the 2024 offseason. While Lamb refused to join the minicamp and training sessions until a contract was signed, Prescott continued with the locker room. But Kellen Moore knows his signal caller. He worked with him during his stint at the franchise.

This year, though, Prescott suffered a hamstring injury in week 9 that ruled him out of the remaining season. However, they would hope that he could make a comeback and lead the team to success. It’s high time they end the 3 decade Super Bowl drought.
