Colorado’s QB Shedeur Sanders is one of the most talked-about prospects this year. Everyone’s excited to see where he will end up, with multiple franchises desperately in need of a QB. Having the first pick, the Titans have dire needs in almost every position. The Browns have the second draft pick, and they are ready to move on from Deshaun Watson this year. And the Giants – their QB situation has been a mess since November. Shedeur seems like a perfect solution for any of these teams. But now, there are some revelations about Colorado’s star that are not exactly the good kind. And they might throw a wrench in his draft stock. Sanders’ name has been sliding in recent mock drafts, so could those revelations be the reason for that?
So, what’s the latest drama brewing in the offseason? Well, NFL insider Josina Anderson has revealed that an anonymous QB coach described Sanders as coming off “brash” and “arrogant.” Anderson did not name that coach or the team. But the claims made are quite the opposite of what the media and a few other coaches at the Scouting Combine were saying about Sanders.
“I am disappointed to hear that a quarterbacks coach from a team drafting in the top 7 referred to Shedeur Sanders as coming off ‘brash’ and ‘arrogant’ in his team interview and made his assessment known to a number of people, per source,” tweeted Anderson. Before taking the high road with an element of added mystery, “I’m purposely not naming the team so as not to directly call the team out.“

So, while these claims come off as quite shocking, Anderson also noted that the QB coach who made these statements about Sanders “seems to have an issue with ‘the culture’ of athletes who have broad fame and financial success before entering the NFL.” The Colorado QB is, of course, the son of Deion ‘Prime Time’ Sanders.
Well, people can have different opinions on the same person. Browns HC Kevin Stefanski also spoke with Sanders at the Scouting Combine and had a very different impression. “Shedeur is a very, very impressive young man… He’s a heckuva football player, that’s evident off the tape. But I was impressed with the person,” Stefanski said.
Draft stock falling: What’s behind Shedeur Sanders’ slide?
This April is going to be very, very interesting. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders were the most talked-about QB prospects in Indianapolis. Sanders was initially the top choice for teams looking to draft a QB. But now, the Colorado star is consistently sliding down draft boards, while his teammate, Travis Hunter, is rising in mock drafts.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Shedeur Sanders' 'brash' attitude a dealbreaker, or exactly what an NFL team needs?
Have an interesting take?
Draft analyst for NFL.com Lance Zierlein’s latest draft shows that Sanders might slip to No. 29. As per Lance, Cam Ward and Shedeur will be the only two QBs taken in the first round of the draft. This is in contrast to 2024, where as many as six young signal callers were among the first 32. The Giants would pick Ward at No. 3 overall. And in an unexpected twist, the Browns will use their second pick to draft WR Travis Hunter instead of QB Sanders. Then the Browns would make a move to trade back into the first round and draft Shedeur. That Browns move would reunite the two teammates, Hunter and Sanders, bringing a little sprinkling of Colorado magic to Cleveland.

But for now, the simple fact is that Sanders is no longer the no. 1 QB prospect. NFL reporter Connor Hughes reported, “Talked to scouts, general managers, executives, head coaches, assistant coaches, and agents at the NFL Scouting Combine. Not one had Sanders as a better quarterback prospect than Ward.“
So, is Sanders’ downfall in the draft because of the claims made by this anonymous coach, or is it something else? Many believe that the Colorado QB lacks the ‘arm strength’ and ‘elite mobility’ that coaches are looking for. But, dropping to No. 29 after being considered a top prospect seems quite bizarre. Could it be his “If you ain’t trying to change the franchise or the culture, don’t get me” soundbite?
