The NFL teams and the fans are keeping an eye on Aaron Rodgers as the New York Jets declined his return for the 2025 season. Now, some believe that he’s gonna play for Tom Brady’s Raiders, while others suggest that he may replace Matthew Stafford in the Rams. A diabolical situation. But hold on! Because there’s a third side as well that believes that A-Rod wants to return to New York in 2025.
Yeah, sounds a little weird with all the exit talk, but you read that right. A few days ago, the New York Post reported that the 41-year-old veteran urged the franchise to give him another year or two to play. Well, at this point, we don’t know how much accuracy this report carries, but Dianna Russini from The Athletic called this straight-up false.
On Wednesday, Russini appeared on The Rich Eisen Show where she was asked what’s the point of Rodgers’ pleading to return to the Jets. In response, Russini didn’t hold back and went straight-up saying, “I don’t think Rogers needs to leak that for the world to know he still wants to play. Guess what he can do? He can just have conversations with Les Snead right now. You know, like if he really wants to get back in there, he can give Omar Khan a call, or at least his agents can.”

Alright, here’s the deal—Russini’s been covering the Jets for a while now. So first, she shot down the rumors. Then, she didn’t even bother digging into where they came from. On top of that, she made it clear that the quarterback already knew his time with the Jets was up. She further added, “I’m not sure who that was that reported that but I’ll just go with what I know and nobody had shared with me that Rodgers was begging to stay in New York Jets.”
“In fact, this entire time I knew that Aaron Rogers wanted his time in New York to come to an end as well he knew this chapter was over a while ago.” Now, let’s call it what it is—Aaron Rodgers wants to play one more season in his long-lasting career. But he’s pleading to stay in a team that had a couple of agonizing seasons? That’s like Ross choosing to stay on a break—yeah, not happening.
Real quick: this story can now end in only two ways. Either Rodgers finds a match with another team or a team’s ready to take a chance on Rodgers. But hell nah, there’s no way he’s suiting up in green and white in 2025. Once Again!
Did Aaron Rodgers really plead with the Jets?
Look, it’s pretty clear that A-Rod met with the Jets’ front office a couple of weeks ago. The meeting concluded with the New York team looking to go in a different direction with the QB position. However, Steve Helling and Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reported that the 41-year-old QB Pleaded with the Jets to keep him for one or a couple of years.
On top of that, Rodgers aggressively urged the franchise to allow him to lead the team. BUT! During the final conversation of the franchise’s new regime, he finally accepted the decision “like a man going to the gallows.” Now, let’s be real—looking at the last two seasons, Rodgers doesn’t just want to play for the sake of playing, right?

I mean, the guy’s been in the league forever, and all he wants now is a season that’s better than the last two. For that, he’s gotta find the right team to give him the send-off he actually deserves. But that’s exactly where things get pretty messy. Sure, there are a bunch of teams that fit suitable for QB in 2025. But the question is—will they really want to take a chance on a 41-year-old QB? That’s gonna be the most-asked question for some time now.
And the Jets? Well, with Aaron Glenn coming as the head coach and Darren Mougey as the general manager, the team’s also looking for a new QB. As per the 2025 NFL draft analysis, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are two of the top contenders for the first overall pick. The kicker? The Jets may not get their hands on any of them given they’ve the no. 7 overall pick option in the draft.
