It’s drama at its peak! Liam Coen didn’t want to become the Jaguars coach and pulled his name back. The Buccaneers talked with him about a contract extension as an offensive coordinator. He reportedly agreed too, but things went crazy when he signed a head coach job with the Jaguars. Jags owner Shahid ‘Shad’ Khan was happy. The Bucs couldn’t understand what was happening. But they dealt with the situation courageously.

Now, there’s another element of tension. Jags owner wants to get the best people this year. According to the national reporter for Fox, Peter Schrager, he has requested the Bucs for permission to interview Assistant General Manager Mike Greenberg for their vacant GM position. That’s crazy!

Greenberg joined the franchise in 2010 as a player personnel assistant. He rose through the ranks, handling different positions, such as director and coordinator of football administration. 2025 is his 15th year with the team and 2nd as the assistant to GM Jason Licht.

Shahid Khan has found a very central key piece there. The assistant GM has been part of many contract negotiations, including assembling the Super Bowl-winning lineup. He helped the team to extend Tom Brady while bringing the legendary TE Rob Gronkowski into the building.

However, the Buccaneers are ready to face the incoming raids. Coen’s leaving left them in a compromising position. But they aren’t allowing it to happen anymore.

Just a few days after leaving, he was trying to get his assistant staff as well to the Jags. Shahid Khan tried to get their permission to interview offensive line coach Kevin Carberry and assistant offensive line coach Brian Picucci. But they blocked it. And the Bucs should keep in mind that Coen met both of them before they came to the Bucs.

Carberry was at the LA Rams with Coen in 2022. He came to the Bucs when Coen became their OC in 2024. Picucci met Coen in 2020 when they were together at the University of Kentucky. They blocked the move to make sure they had the right people.

After the Liam Coen fiasco, the Bucs are angry. But their QB Baker Mayfield is fine with it. He claimed it was an excellent decision for the new head coach. And in the league, every person wants to reach the next level. That’s fine. As time goes on, we’ll get more surprises. Brace yourself!
