Drama Alert! Matthew Stafford‘s future certainties have taken a severe turn. Here we go again. The veteran QB and the Rams are discussing a prospective contract. However, the team is unwilling to sign a 37-year-old instead of planning for the long term. Stafford, on the other hand, has made it obvious that he wants $50 million per year in his next contract. But the Rams are still uninterested in him, and it appears they have already found a replacement.
Dianna Russini disclosed this prospective successor on a Scoop City podcast episode. Matthew Stafford is an explosive QB, and it will be difficult to find someone who is that good. So, instead, the squad is only searching for potential full-time quarterbacks whose game can be improved through coaching. And, according to Russini, this possible QB is none other than Jimmy Garoppolo. Wait, isn’t he their backup QB?

Well, yes, the Rams can start the 2025 season with their backup quarterback leading from the front. Russini stated, “Look, here’s what I know: the Rams are comfortable with Jimmy Garoppolo. Well, Matthew Stafford is looking for, you know, over $50 million a year. We are talking two years up to a 110 million dollar deal.” After all of this, it is reasonable to assume that Stafford’s chances of returning to the Rams are slim right now. But the quarterback has played a trump card that can make the team consider him once again.
According to some sources, Matthew Stafford is willing to settle for less than $50 million just for the Rams. The low we’re talking about might be as much as $40 million. What a dedication to play for the team, right? But, it appears that his dedication is not being appreciated. None other than former QB Chase Daniel, who was also on the Scoop City podcast, hated this potential aspect.
Daniel argued that Stafford’s legacy will suffer as he falls behind several young quarterbacks. After all, regardless of his age, the guy can be a hundred times more useful than these upcoming QBs. Chase Daniel’s statement can be particularly hurtful for Stafford. After all, they are true. But why would Stafford do something like undervaluing himself? Given that there are teams with checks in front of his house with more money on it.

Matthew Stafford has four teams ready to pay the demands or more
After playing in the NFL for 15 years it is obvious for a player to get a large contract. And in this scenario, Matthew Stafford is no exception. The former Super Bowl winner has stated multiple times that he hopes to make an impact in his last few years. And, given his optimism and confidence, teams such as the Giants, Browns, Steelers, and Raiders could be future alternatives. All these teams would love to sign the 37-year-old despite the age being a factor.

Stafford may consider speaking with these teams once his thoughts have been distracted from the Rams. Interestingly, Chase Daniel reacted to these things, too, revealing his thoughts on the matter. The former QB understands how valuable Stafford truly is. So, in his opinion, this trade should not be valued at $110 million. And the quarterback should receive at least a $150 million contract as his final one in the NFL. Through this, the team should be able to pay the quarterback $50 million per year because it is an appropriate amount for someone like him.

Not only that, but Daniel also thinks that the Minnesota Vikings can be a good landing spot for Stafford. He claimed all those on the same podcast, stating, “People don’t realize — like with Stafford — not only do you have to trade for him and give up trade compensation, but you also have to give him legitimate money: a three-year, $150 million deal. Like that. $50 million a year is about right. I mean, he’s probably worth more than that. I think he’s a top-five quarterback in the league. Now, he’s a gunslinger, and he’s tough as nails, but I feel like he might get hurt behind that offensive line.”
Daniels’ statements have received a mixed reaction from fans. Some believe Stafford is worth this amount of money, while others believe he should receive less. Only time will tell what happens with the QB, so tighten your seat belt till then and stay tuned for more updates.
