Myles Garrett wanted to leave the Browns for one and only one reason. They weren’t a Super Bowl-winning team (or contender). The Browns’ offense was a bummer in the 2024 season. Averaging 300.8 yards per game, they ranked 28th in terms of total offense. They might not have found a way to fix their offense, but somehow GM Andrew Berry found a way to keep him by restructuring his contract. The new four-year $160 million extension will keep him at the franchise till 2030, with a no-trade clause. We can say that with more cash comes more responsibility.

And Garrett’s first mission? To hold back RB Nick Chubb. A veteran of seven seasons for the Browns, who is already into the free agency. According to the rumors, the defensive end is talking to the running back, trying to make him come back into the team. Now this is a mystery, Myles Garrett himself wanted out some days back. Moreover, the RB had a poor run in the last two seasons with the franchise.

Over the last two years combined, Chubb has played in 10 games (all as a starter), recording 130 rushes for 502 yards and three touchdowns. His receiving game has also been underwhelming, with just nine receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown. Naturally, concerns about his performance have arisen. However, if the Browns don’t bring him back, other teams are ready to step in. Myles Garrett understands that if they truly want to win, they need more firepower on offense.

There is a strong chance that Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel, could poach him if the Browns don’t. He was their team consultant in 2024. Thomas Brown, the Pats TE and passing game coordinator, also served as Chubb’s position coach in Georgia, his college. So, the connection is strong.

The only concern about his job could be his age and his injury-ridden past. He will turn 30 this year. And while he recovered from the torn MCL and damaged ACL, he couldn’t perform well in 2024. So that thing is also running in the back of minds of all the teams. While they are waiting for him, the team is trying to strengthen their defensive lines.

Myles Garrett gets a key weapon in 2025

On March 22, the Browns announced a one-year deal with linebacker Jerome Baker. That’s a strong boost for Myles Garrett. They now have more options to choose from. Overall, too, the LB comes with strong playing experience.

Can Myles Garrett's leadership turn the Browns into a Super Bowl contender, or is it wishful thinking?

Have an interesting take?

Born in Cleveland, Baker displayed a strong desire to play football since childhood. In fact, he was a standout performer at Benedictine High School. Even in college, he first committed to play for Florida but switched his allegiance to Ohio State. The 3rd round pick (73rd overall) of the 2018 Draft played 6 seasons for the Dolphins before moving to the Seahawks last year and the Titans in 2024. 2025 will be his eighth year in the league and it’s homecoming for the 28-year-old.

Over seven seasons, he has played in 104 games (starting 90) and recorded 5 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), 25 passes defended, 24.5 sacks, and 648 tackles (416 solo). While the team continues to strengthen both its offensive and defensive lines, GM Andrew Berry and Head Coach Kevin Stefanski must also find the right quarterback. If they have assured Myles Garrett that they are building a playoff-caliber team, the head coach will play a crucial role in making that a reality.
