Does beating the Steelers mean more to the Browns than a playoff spot this season?

The Cleveland Browns have seen way too much this season. In fact, they’ve been going through it since they signed Deshaun Watson to a fully guaranteed $230 million deal. Watson is out due to a season-ending injury and it’s in the hands of Jameis Winston to lift the spirits of this franchise. We enjoyed listening to him and perhaps, he had a similar effect on Myles Garrett.

The former DPOY had a chance to speak to Kaylee Hartung after the game and dropped some gems. Though the Browns are out of the playoff contention, beating their divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers have got to mean something. After all, they are one of the strongest teams in the AFC. The Browns defense came to life tonight, thanks to Garrett, who didn’t miss a chance to walk all over Russell Wilson.

In a sideline interview after the game, the Browns DE stated, “It doesn’t matter what our record is—we always have something to play for.” At this point, the Browns are just fixated on the light at the end of the tunnel and are focused on playing for all the right reasons without worrying about their playoff hunt. Garrett has found “why” he is going all in to get the dub.

“Just find it. Find your why. Come out here and play the best that you can,” the former DPOY added later. This marks the end of a five-game winning streak that the Pittsburgh Steelers were on. The bitter defeat had George Pickens lashing out at the end. That was perhaps the most beautiful sight the Browns might have witnessed in quite some time.

This was the first snowy game of the season and with that, the Browns wiped the nasty taste from their mouths from the last two losses. The defense, Myles Garrett in particular, did a pretty great job of stopping the Steelers’ offense in the snow.

How Myles Garrett dismantled Russell Wilson and his offense

Garett showed why he got the DPOY award in the 2023 season over TJ Watt. He sacked Russell Wilson thrice in the game, after all. On the other hand, Watt couldn’t sack Jameis Winston, not once. This prompted the Browns DE to say a few words about his competition with TJ Watt in the TNF game.

“I have a lot of respect for him… But I’m number 1. That’s from Edge 1 to Defensive Player of the Year. I’m the guy. That runs through me,” Myles said in the post-game interview as it snowed on the field.

But despite Garrett’s beliefs, the stats from last year tell a different tale. Watt led the former DPOY in all the relevant stats such as INTs, sacks, solo tackles, forced fumbles, etc. However, the big leagues call for more than just stats, and maybe, just maybe, TJ Watt fell short somewhere.
