What’s happening between Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett? The defensive end wants to be traded, but the Browns adhere to their decision of not wanting to trade him. It’s like Garrett packed his bags, but the team changed the locks and won’t let him call an Uber. That’s pretty insane. And now he talked about his trade request to ESPN and believe me, he didn’t just drop a bomb—he set off a whole fireworks show in Cleveland.

“Speaking with the management at the Browns, I don’t feel like our future is aligned with winning right now, and that’s what I’m looking forward to do at this state of my career,” Garrett told ESPN. Ouch! That statement came almost a week after he requested for a trade. The reason?

See, the 29-year-old DE wants to win a Super Bowl, and he believes that he can’t win a Super Bowl if he remains with the Browns. And can you blame him? The Browns drafted him with first overall pick back in the 2017 NFL draft and he’s been with the Cleveland team for eight years now. But the thing is, he’s yet to win a Super Bowl ring with the team. Nah, scratch that. The Browns are yet to reach the Super Bowl ever since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.

And as far as his performance is concerned, Garrett wasn’t just clocking in this season, he was out there terrorizing QBs for fun. He started every game of the regular season for the Browns. His stats? 47 tackles—40 of them solo—7 assists, and a nasty 14 sacks. And if you look at the Browns, it is safe to say the team isn’t utilizing his true potential. The reason? Well, the team wrapped up its season on a pretty embarrassing note with 3-14.

And when asked, “What made you decide that this is the time you need to make a change in your career,” Garrett cleared his stance on winning the Super Bowl. “I just show after taking some time from the season, no using them little time to no decompression, have some, you know, time to talk to my family, consult with them, no work through some feelings and emotions and also speaking with the management at the Browns…”

He further added, Have a lot of love for Northeast Ohio and no community that brought me into the league but want to get to contending and winning playoff games and having a chance to be in games like today (Super Bowl).” Sure, Myles Garrett is untradable for the Browns but one thing’s clear, it’s an opportunity for the organization to build their roster for the following season.

And it looks like they’re holding out for a miracle next season, ’cause they’re not even thinking about letting go of their veteran defensive end.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Myles Garrett right to seek a trade, or should he stick it out with the Browns?

The Browns want Myles Garrett to stay

Myles Garrett might be many things, but when it came to his trade request, he was brutally loyal to his team. See, the 29-year-old has spent eight years with the Browns and he believes that the Cleveland team hasn’t been in the winningest category for a while now. And let’s be real: he’s absolutely right. But the thing is, trade procedure is a two-way thing and Garrett is yet to get a green light on his request.

The kicker? The Browns are not ready to part ways with him easily. Last month, the Browns’ general manager, Andrew Berry, told the reporters: “We always have a really good and direct two-way communication with our players. We feel really good about Myles obviously as a big piece of our future. We’re looking forward to him being on the field. Like I said in my (early January) press conference, we envision him going from Cleveland to Canton when his career is over.”

Alright, that’s cool and all, Berry, but your guy wants a Super Bowl now—not a ticket to Canton after he hangs up his cleats. Sure, the fans would want him to be a future Hall of Famer, but being a Hall of Famer with a Super Bowl ring is a different vibe.

Now, hold that thought! Because, as it appears, the DE is in, “Fine! I’ll do it myself,” kinda mood. The reason? Well, Garrett is currently in New Orleans. And according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, he knows the league’s biggest decision-makers are all in town (New Orleans) and potential suitors are hoping to seal the deal before the new league year kicks off on March 12.

Now, the talk of the town is, Myles Garrett may land a spot with the Jayden DanielsCommanders‘ in the following season. And considering their defense wasn’t built for the big stage this season, Garrett might be the answer for them.
