Following Week 12’s Eagles vs. Bills game, Josh Allen has been the talk of the NFL town. The Bills’ QB was supposedly Horse Collar tackled in the game, which was overlooked by the referee and seen as an intentional grounding.

The Bills lost the match despite going the furthest with last season’s Super Bowl runners-up. But later in the game, Allen had his revenge, making the opposition look stupid.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts didn’t have a great start to the game and pretty much failed to make any mark before halftime. Taking advantage, the Bills pushed their limits to keep up with the near-perfect Eagles. QB Josh Allen, in particular, was instrumental with 29-51 for 339 yards and two touchdowns.

His lone heroics attracted the appreciation of the community and pundits. Broadcaster Colin Cowherd was impressed with the QB’s display and termed him a “freak” even though he couldn’t bring the all-important win for the Bills.

But there was a moment when Allen had won his own battle quite smartly. Recovering from the awkward landing during the controversial second-quarter tackle that ripped his jersey, Allen kept fighting for the ambitious win over the Eagles in overtime.

During one play, the QB was tackled by Eagles linebacker Nicholas Morrow right after he released a short pass. Allen immediately went to the ground, probably in a bit exaggerated manner. But the referee was on alert this time, and despite the tackle looking brutal, Allen’s fall convinced the referee to note the play as a rough attempt.

This time, the Bills earned a foul play at a very important time as they were still leading the scoreline in the overtime. However, Jalen Hurt proved his worth in the final seconds, as the QB ran for a sneaky 12-yard touchdown that ultimately won the game for the reigning NFC champions.

But what was the fuss about the Horse Collar tackle that heated the game up? And why would Allen see the overtime foul as “revenge,” which made more headlines than the game itself?

When rewatched, clips suggest that the Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick went definition by definition with a Horse Collar tackle, holding Allen’s collar with one hand and shoulder pads with another before aggressively pulling him down and ripping his jersey. Sadly, this type of tackle is not a reviewable offense in the NFL.

To make matters worse, a wide receiver was also present in the area to cancel out the intentional grounding rule, which states the foul will be called if a QB releases the ball to break play while going to the ground, despite the absence of a receiving player close to him. That’s why the whole incident has the majority convinced that the referees puckered the QB by not compensating and charging with intentional grounding.

The game was done and dusted, and Allen had his moment of revenge. But in a season where the refereeing calls have often been points of scrutiny and discussion, the tackle on Allen will continue to be talked about for quite a while.
