The Philadelphia Eagles were off to a great start this season with their 10-1 score. And then disaster struck. The mood in the Eagles’ locker room is far from celebratory. The reason? They have now lost three straight games and morale is at an all-time low. The team’s quarterback, Jalen Hurts, acknowledged this and said, “We’re not committed enough.” He faced backlash for this statement, but is he far from the truth?

They were the leaders of the NFC East a few weeks ago. Now their lead has been upset by the underdogs, the Dallas Cowboys. From a number 2 seed, they’ve gone down to number 5. But if they don’t snap their losing streak soon, they might be out of the playoff picture completely. Amidst this gloom and doom, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported some worrying words on the street.

Sentiments turn negative for the Philadelphia Eagles

Dov Kleiman took to X to share that the publication has reported that the sentiment is that the Eagles are “The most miserable 10-1 team ever”. Strong words, for sure. The offense has been crumbling and, in the last three games, Hurts only recorded one touchdown, threw for just 638 passing yards, and two interceptions. The defense has had persistent troubles throughout the entire season. So much so that they were forced to demote their defensive coordinator, Sean Desai, and ask Matt Patricia to fill in for him.

The defense has allowed 255.4 passing yards per game, which is the fifth most in the NFL, and has allowed 24.4 points per game. One source also called the Eagles’ culture a “clown show”. The team has two important games coming up, which will determine the team’s record and the morale with which they will enter the playoffs. Will Christmas Day prove lucky for the Eagles?

Can the Eagles snap their streak on Christmas Day?

The New York Giants have managed to win a few games with the help of rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito, but on both offense and defense, they are poorly ranked. In terms of offense, they are runners-up from the bottom in yards per drive, points per drive, and DVOA. On the defensive side of things, they are second runners-up from the bottom in opposition yards per rush and sack percentage.

The Eagles’ plan to shake up the defensive play-caller role hasn’t gone to waste entirely. In the losing Seattle Seahawks game, Matt Patricia’s defense seemed more aggressive than the one under Sean Desai. With the Giants not known for their explosive plays, it seems that Patricia’s plan may work better this time. They will need to watch out for QB DeVito as well. Agreed, he has not been consistent in his games, but what if the Christmas Day game is the one where he decides to work his magic?

Philadelphia will be playing the game in their home stadium, in front of a stadium packed with Philly fans in the Christmas mood. If they can manage to pull this one off, it will be as good a comeback as it can get and will help the sentiments to be positive as well.
